I just got a $500 box of all new uncirculated 2020 D Marsh Billings quarters and to my surprise i found no W's in the whole box. Has any one else experienced this.
I just opened two boxes over the last three days and found 29 W's in one and 25 W's in the other. However, when I opened three Salt River Boxes I found 98 W's in two of the boxes and nothing in the third box. So it does happen.
Where do you get your coins, what city Histman? I would like to see pictures of all of those W Coins, please.
None of this would happen down here in Louisiana, but it might over in Florida or Texas. Very few 2020 coins in circulation here, just zincolns and quarters but no nickels or dimes.
Just yesterday I received 4 pennies and a dime that were dated 2020. All we get it is recycled coins so I was surprised to receive 5 fresh out of the rolls coins.
From what I know about the situation is they fill up the ballistic bag with quarters for shipping and top it off with a couple ice machine scoops worth of Ws. Very possible they stay on the top during shipment to the armored carriers, and the majority go into the first half of the ballistic bag rolling, while the bottom half of the pallet has near nothing to it. I've seen boxes that were duds and hot boxes, so I think that's what's going on. really. That said I'm in Florida. Getting any rolled coin from a bank is pretty impossible unless you have a really solid connection and favors being done. We aren't flooded with the Ws by any means. They are still playing "Great coin shortage of 2020" around here.
I live in Fresno, Ca. I get the coins about 1 1/2 hours away in Los Banos, CA. I have a great relationship with the ladies at the bank. They order me four boxes a week. I keep exchanging a box of $500 with them so that I am not "technically" taking coins from the bank. Here is a picture of 20 I just sold on eBay. I just put another 20 up again. I also have a roll that has a "W" ender I haven't listed yet. My eBay handle is "Histman" as well.
Here in Maryland, I have found exactly 3 2020 quarters all year. I have not been permitted to purchase boxes, but I have purchased many, many rolls of quarters. It is a bit discouraging to hear about boxes of 2020's. Happy for you, though. Continued success to you.
Yep, I understand. I have had a great relationship with the five ladies at my bank for several years. They were actually told by their bosses (Mechanics Bank) that they could not give out coins. The branch manager and tellers are actually going behind their back because of our relationship (and I'm technically not taking anything from them because I exchange a box with them). They used to provide me all customer coins brought in during the week for me to pick up on Fridays. They can't do that at the moment so this is a workable solution. It also doesn't hurt that I gave them about $2,500 in change (various denominations) when this all first started happening because they couldn't get coins themselves. But I get your point. Takes all the fun out of coin collecting and hunting.
