Out of curiosity, what bank did you use? I live in Middle Tennessee myself as well.

Were they just boxes of wrapped coins or were they mint rolls?because if they were than you got lucky I haven't been able to get a box of coins since the outbreak 7-6 months ago.

Either I'm getting lucky, or no one in my area hunts nickels. The most surprising find was a 2005 Bahamian nickel, considering I live in MN it had quite a journey to take. I found my first 30s nickel, a 1939. I found some old dates and a lot of Canadians, not surprising considering I'm pretty close. 100$ is a lot of money for me to be spending here, equal to 4 cent boxes, so as fun as nickels are I think I'll stick with cents for the time being.

About halfway through with my first box of nickels since about June, box was real quiet with no finds to speak of until this turned up. Close but not the holy grail, and it filled a spot in my album! 002.jpg 001.jpg

That's crazy you posted this....because a couple of days ago, my wife (who does the nickel boxes) pulled a 1950-D and put it in with the “pre-1960” pile that we save. Luckily, I go through that pile and pulled this baby out. We’ve had a few 1950’s recently, but this time we scored!! 6B2A33E3-DF51-4C5F-814A-FF0313A359F2.jpeg 1D1B04B2-C9A0-4397-995C-A11C6DC7DB29.jpeg

That's an awesome find, and shocking to see one in worn circulated condition, makes it even more special than most of the surviving 1950-Ds!

Yesterday 3 banks had $1 loose halves (nothing), $20 MWR halves (nothing), and $400 CWR halves.

I just searched the $400 in CWRs. They were loaded with dog hair, cat hair, and human hair (long, like a woman may have)...Absolutely disgusting. Also, the rolls were 6 halves short.

Thankfully, I found an impaired 1964 proof!

Does anyone know an uncirculated supplier that you trust buying from online? A lot of these people claim they have coin rolls from however long ago and they claim they're unsearched but I don't trust it. Is a bank really the best place to go?

It can be if you get lucky and find a stash from 50 years ago that was found by someone who is clueless or couldn't care less about coins. True example: in 2013 my grandfather revealed to me a glass jar of cents that had been stored away and untouched since 1974. The jar was obviously mixed but the most recent cents from 1974 were quite well preserved and shiny.

It was of decent size of I'd say two or two and a half liters. The jar was shown to me only briefly before being put away again.

In 2015, my mother went out to help grandpa move as he was frail and in declining health. It was two months or so before I was able to make it out to help with this move from North Carolina to Connecticut. I made multiple requests to please set aside this jar when it was found. All I heard for a good while was, "I didn't find such a jar." It later turned out the cents were placed into a plastic container to prepare their move up north.

In 2017, grandpa departed this earth and being I had been inquiring about a glass jar and not a plastic container, the cents were subsequently brought to a bank for deposit. So there you have it. If you were in the right place at the right time there at the bank you could have had a nice score of cents that had been essentially untouched since 1974.

Thank you! Great story, so I will start buying from the bank. Do you believe theres any truth to the online "pay a little extra for a random unsearched coin" thing?

Indeed it is. Thankfully, a couple of smaller jars of cents that were put away in the 1980's was able to be rescued and preserved intact but this jar from 1974 was the gem of what was put away.

To answer your question, with very few exceptions the answer is "no" as such coins are quite unlikely to not have been searched at some point by their very nature of what they are being sold or offered as.

So when you buy rolls of "unsearched" Wheat cents isn't it peculiar that they are advertised as dating from 1909 - 1958? How is it possible that they would all be Wheats (and which often have a few Indians mixed in) unless they were put away in 1958 or before unless they've been filtered by someone?

Let's say the coins were set aside in 1963 by someone who didn't care if they were saving Wheats or Memorial cents. Well, wouldn't such a batch of coins have coins from 1959 to 1962 or 1963 mixed into them if they truly remained unsearched? Or let's say this someone started saving whatever Wheats they found in 1963 and spent the Memorial cents. Weren't they now essentially "searched"?

However, that is not to say nice coins cannot be found in such rolls but just know they've quite likely been looked over and checked by discerning eyes before making their way to you. And the higher the premium you pay for such rolls the more likely the seller has put something nice into the rolls for you to find or the higher quality the roll will be overall. Just don't go into it expecting such coins to be well, "unsearched".

Was feeling the need to CRH tonight. The best I could do was get $60 in quarters from the coin machine at the laundromat. First coin I came across was this. Glad I stopped in there! No other goodies though

Your laundromat still uses coins? Most of them don't anymore, they use cards that you load up.

My CRHing has had limited success as of late, but I did find this 2020P Salt River Bay tilted partial collar today.

Meow just came back form the bank today with a pawful of 2020d Salt river quarters! It is the first time Meow has Catsonally seen 2020 quarters where Meow lives. Meow has yet to find one in change, but was lucky enough to obtain 20 rolls today. Meow is very happy about it and is purring like mad with them.

Meow will open a few to see what there is. Opened one so far, nada. After a few more misses, Meow will stash the rest in the Cat hoard.
