Has anyone on here ever bid at Numisor SA? I placed a bid there today, and was curious if anyone here has done business with them before. I found them on Numisbids.

It looks like more world coinage. I didnt see any ancients, but I was bidding on this coin.

Do they accept PayPal? That would be more of a concern for me since
the coin is in NGC plastic. Nice coin though. Good luck!!

I believe so. I think simple credit card too. They seem legit and have some really high dollar items, I was just curious if anyone else had bought there before.

    I'd never heard of them.

I thought so too! It says it hammered for exactly my max bid and that internet bids have priority over floor bids, so I should have won it. But I haven't recieved an email about it and the account I opened there doesn't show that I've won anything, so I am really curious and hopeful.

I have bid many times with Numisor since they started - excellent to deal with and very professional. As a collector of colonial coins they often have lots of top grade examples which makes life really difficult:D.

I did pick up a couple of lots at the sale yesterday but most of the ones I was interested in went way over estimate e.g. >10x! This probably means I have to reconsider what I am collecting as it looks like I will need a lottery win to complete typesets let alone date runs.

I also looked at the 1727 2 reales as I seem to accumulating a few of this denomination, as I was outbid @kazuma78 were you successful?

I believe I won, I put in a prebid of 1200 and it hammered at 1200. But my account doesn't reflect that I won anything and I did not receive any email confirmation. In their terms and conditions it says prebids have priority so I think I won. I will send them an email tomorrow to find out.

Hopefully that means you were successful and that no one else put an equivalent prebid in earlier! (this has happened to me :grumpy:)

I try and focus on the portrait issues but lost out on the Charles III 1774 Mo FM 2 reales. As my other interest is the Napoleonic period most of my coins are Charles IV and Ferdinand VII so I can live with missing out on a Charles III example. I did manage to secure the 1798 NG M 2 reales which was great - probably because it was MS63 and the top coin is MS64 which meant that the price didn't keep climbing :D

I dont believe there was an equivalent prebid. When presiding closed, it was at 750, and a live bidder took it up to 1100, as i watched the live portion.

Thats great on your win! I primarily collect ancients now, but I have a small set of coins I've put together for places I've been. I've been to Segovia, and I love that the mintmark for the coins there is an aqueduct. So a silver piece from this city in attractive unc is a must for me!

Unfortunately I have never been to that part of Spain, the aqueduct is truly impressive. The closest we have here in the wilds of the north of England is Hadrian's wall and most of that is missing :D

I have always been fascinated by ancients but the diversity is even greater than 'modern' world coins although I am usually drawn to Corinthian staters and the celtiberian horsemen. As I started as a British sixpence collector I suppose is should be roman denarii!

If you ever get a chance to go you should check it out. Its incredible!

As for ancients, there's a lot of variety and it can be overwhelming at first. But I personally found the artistry of ancient Greek coins to be addicting. At this point I haven't focused on a certain theme other than Greek. Although, I tend to gravitate towards punic issues and pieces with history I find particularly interesting. Often times tied to Hardcore History podcasts I've listened to.

numisor is awesome! Great auction house that sells an amazing assortment of coins about 1-2 times a year. No problems EVER from them

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I actually just discovered them and placed a couple of bids in their auction this weekend. I lost one, but won the other.

I assume they'll send me an email invoice to pay? Or do I have to contact them somehow?

I have won 5 coins from them in past auctions. I got blown out of the water this time/ my bids where twice estimate....but I lost them by a wide margin. They are nice to deal with. However, they will not accept international bank drafts/ only wires:(

My credit card doesn't charge international fees and they took it, no problem. I felt more comfortable doing that than a wire. I hate wiring funds anywhere.

They sent me an email invoice and they accepted Paypal, so that's what I did. Super easy.

I almost did paypal, but in the past they have screwed me on the exchange rate so I didn't even try it this time. What did they give you for an exchange rate, if you dont mind me asking?
