    Germany - but more specifically, Brunswick-Luneberg-Callenberg-Hannover. A one-sixth thaler piece dated 1795.

GB 1795 Taylor restrike pattern halfpenny Peck 1053. Inexplicably and inconsistently only given a 61 grade when formerly in a slab. Better than the wiped former 65 also in my possession. That's their problem, not mine.

A Late Soho 1795 pattern halfpenny using the 1797 bust type obverse. Peck 1046. Excessively rare, this coin is the only example to appear in the market in the past 50 years. ex Jules Riever collection, Heritage Jan 2006 and Stacks Bowers April 2011. Previously in an NGC 64 slab, ref. 308500-011.

I love those elephants. Here are 1797 and 1798 Mysore Tipu Sultan AE 1/4 paisa I recently got. I believe both are Patan mint. I think the big 1 paisa coins are more pleasing in the hand.

    I concur!

What is the AM time-counting abbreviation for - as in 1223 AM? After Matt? Who's Matt?

Hmmm . .. 1795 AD. What was going on 1795? Or what was going on in 572 AD (1795AD - 1223AM)? After the Mohammedans kicked Constantinople butt? That was about that time, no?

I think Tipu Sultan kind of invented his own calendar, that might be where the AM dates come from. Not real sure, I mostly just believe what the gurus at zeno.ru tell me.

I am I seeing things or do the dates on those Mysore coins read from right to left?

A nice coin purchased in a lot of Littleton coin envelopes. Appears truly uncirculated but a weak strike.
