Taking a quick look at the known mintmark positions, I didn't see one that matched but I do see what you are talking about.
Well as long as im not the only one lol. it looks like its close to the lowest known mint mark but i agree it seems a bit lower.
I'm certainly not a mintmark expert, it does look like there is an s shape but likely not the mintmark. It could just be my eyes, but on the second picture I can see something that looks like a 3 from some angles and a 5 from others. I know that's not a thing, just pointing it out.
Yeah i know the point you're makin. Some pictures look pretty defined to me and was hoping someone knows of another example they've seen that had a grease buildup or something of that nature that could make it far less defined. Thanks for the input
I would have to say it is a counterfeit. Too low. Visible though - 1909 isn't so bad anyway. I did find a 1909 VDB with my medical detector once. I was thrilled but yes I would have went nuts if there was a legit S on it. It was in a coin spill with 6 others from 1910 to 1916. Stay Safe!
It looks plausible to me. For the value, this would be one of the few that I'd send in to get slabbed for an expert opinion in hand.
It seems that you seem to notice the unseen quite often. Ones of these days it's just going to be too obvious and everyone will see it.
I think a couple spots see making an illusion of something that Isn’t there. Just a normal 1909 Lincoln
