Yeah. And when the coin rotates, hold your electric toothbrush to the edge to vibrate it back where you want it.
The good thing about those OGH rattlers is that they were done in the pre-gradeflation days. The grading was accurate by ANA standards.
They are really pathetic holders. They only thing they have going for them is that there was a period when the grading ultra conservative, which gave them a great reputation. To many coins rattled in the holder. I had three of the gold coins in my original eight piece type set graded during the "rattle holder" era. I traded one for an early U.S. coin, cracked out another because it rattled and got it upgraded from MS-64 to 65 and got another upgraded from 62 to 63. And yes, the one point added significantly to the value.
Agreed. I personally aren’t a fan of the holders. My favorite the green label Pcgs actually. And of course the doily though they’re rare
20 miles due west of Portland. No not really. It’s a neat little historical village in a big spread out town that’s basically become a suburb of Portland
45 minutes away. I was there the other day. Didn’t love a lot of the political views from many of the signs though
I agree with you about the green label holders although you can't blindly use that as an indicator for a properly graded coin. There are some clunkers in them too. As for doilies, I am not a fan. Why pay extra money for a label? I'll pass.
Agree about paying extra for the label. But if a nice coin in one that you’re buying the coin not the label. That’s where I like them. Always regret not buying a ms 64 saint in a doily an antique dealer I know had. Was probably a 65 today he was too strong on the money. He Couldn’t have cared less about the label and didn’t know. All he knew was it was a ms 64 pcgs saint. But he’d bought it when gold was up before. Now it would have been a good investment I think he wanted at the time $1800 for a coin I would have happily paid $1400 for. It was a pretty coin too though a common date
