100_4798.JPG A local metal detectorist in the UK found this ancient coin......and as you may know...the era isn't me....he told me it was not struck in the UK. Camera date is incorrect. 100_4799.JPG

Ok Thanks . I think that's a great find either way. I live here in the States and my oldest is a 1733 King George 1/2 cent or pence I forget.

I just spoke to the owner and told him what he has......but I was rather underwhelmed with the value so didn't both making him an offer. He has found lots of Roman coins and quite a few from the middle ages but the grades are all low....was nice to see all the coins he got out of the ground in Cheshire......

It really is remarkable that that one made it as far as Cheshire. It's solid evidence of how long Romans could circulate, since they didn't invade, properly, until the reign of Claudius (mid-1st CE). Of course, this one would have had to be in continuous circulation just to get to Britain in the first place. ...And Heck, it's a pretty solid example! Kind of thing I'd buy, especially at the right price.

But it's probably only worth £40 in that condition? And I think it has pride of place in the blokes collection of finds.....

...No, @Bing was only posting another example of the same coin. He wasn't trying for another attribution.
