Found another coin in my packet of uncirculated coins. A 2007-P WY 25c. This appears to be a DDR but I am not sure which one (if any). I have looked at DDR 012, 023, 032 and 039. I believe it to be closer to DDR-023, as the anomaly by the hat is there, as well as a crack through the Q in QUARTER. The only thing is the crack does not mirror the photo for VarietyVista's DDR-023 but it is close. http://www.varietyvista.com/09c WQ Vol 3 States/2007PWYDDR023 quarter.htm My coin also approximates the DDR-039 but the gouge is more severe and the crack even more deep into the Q, as indicated on VarietyVista. http://www.varietyvista.com/09c WQ Vol 3 States/2007PWYDDR039 quarter.htm DDR's 012 and 032 are also approximations, in which possibly my coin is a progression of Stage B: http://www.varietyvista.com/09c WQ Vol 3 States/2007PWYDDR012 quarter.htm http://www.varietyvista.com/09c WQ Vol 3 States/2007PWYDDR032 quarter.htm DDR-032 seems to have a stronger spread horizontally than the 012. If I had to say, I'd say DDR-012 with possible stage progression indicated (if that is the correct terminology to use). Or... My coin could be MD with Die Gouge and Die Crack... ~Rob
Ball, So how do you tell the difference if your coin looks like the lusted photos n has similar die markers? ~Rob
Indeed, I could. I plan on doing that with a couple of coins I have. Just prefer a bit of insight from more experienced coin collectors. ~Rob
there 76 WDDRS for this. I see the hat which looks like pre-die chips, I see the obverse die crack, I don't see an area of doubling to match to the known double dies, nothing suspect about the saddlehorn area where there's literally 98% of all these DDRs. overall these pictures depict a deteriorating die that's near the end of it's life. 2007-P 25c WY DDR-023 isn't it, it's not the same obverse crack at all which just leads me to believe the area cracked from die fatigue there more often on this design. Same goes for the hat a good spot for die chips, just like between the butt and tail of the horse. IMHO I think you might be putting too much value in the pre-die chipped hat and die crack and trying to make a DDR fit it because the rest is so identifiable to a die pair. I can see this as a very identifiable die pair, just not as a DDO or DDR unless you can point out the doubling I should be looking at to check against known examples. which picture is what makes you think it's a DDR please?
I am very open to the fact it may not be a DDR... I appreciate your knowledge and information. This is not to say I don't appreciate the input of others, such as cmp9ball, I do appreciate everyone's input. The montra is that stepped and table-like is MD... So when I see a sloped yet raised portion of a coin where a known doubled die has been identified, with similarly identified die markers I pose the question n pictures for review. I have learned a lot but am still learning. ~Rob
Rob, I appreciate the fact you are still learning, so am I, I think we never stop unless we decide to stop ourselves. I wasn't being harsh, just trying to figure out where you see doubling that points you to a DDR? I do believe you have pre-die chips on the hat, I do believe there is a die crack on the obverse. this is exactly what those things look like to me. I can't figure out however where you see doubling, and what it could possible match to (because I don't know where you see it on the coin). Variety vista is good and all, I also use Wexler's https://www.doubleddie.com/190953.html this one? 2007-P 25¢ WY WDDR-035 maybe on the link above, if that's where you see the doubling to be, It's really the only place I could see it being from the pictures.
It could be... I'm not at my coins to view it again for the die gouge... Variety has no significant markers listed... It's why I thought maybe it was potentially a different stage in the minting... Especially since other DDR coins have similar markers. And I didn't take any of your responses as being harsh... ~Rob
