It's enough to make you cry!!!

A few weeks back, I was dumping coins in a coin counter at one of my dump banks. At this particular counter, the rejects tend to jam up in the reject chute. When the tellers changes the full bags, I clean out the reject chute for myself.

This particular occasion, I got 26 steel wheaties out of the reject chute.

I begged and pleaded with the teller to buy the penny bags, but they just wouldn't budge.

I'll always wonder what was in those penny bags.......

= ( that IS really depressing. Maybe if you'd offered to pay for it IN PENNIES, they'd have let you = P

 

That seems strange they wouldn't let you buy them. I would think it would be less hassle for the bank to trade for your cash.

 

you've got to wonder if the teller didn't either want them for herself or a friend.

 

I would have grabed the bag and made a quick get away in my vechical ,and If I did get caught ,and they sentence me for about six months :crying:at least I have my loupe and the bag of coins to keep me occupied for the duration of the sentence, and when I get out:hatch: maybe i would be a rich man finding 55 ,58, 69 ,72,83 doubled dies not a bad deal after all

I can feel the pain.

I always try to buy the bags of 1/2 dollars, to no avail.

That is sad, I just changed My Mood to SAD. what is usually the banks policy on this?

What's even more amazing than the fact that they wouldn't sell the bags is the fact that they didn't have you arrested for stealing coins out of the reject chute.

 

I have found out bank policies differ. I have seen banks that don't like to mess with bag counts and I went to one small bank looking for halves which had no rolls, but the teller grabbed the bag from the coin counter and told me to look through it for any coins I wanted to buy. Go figure.

 

Each Branch Manager is different. At this particular bank, their long standing policy is not to sell the bags. I tried to get them to make an exception just this once. They wouldn't budge.

I often wonder if it would have made a difference if I offered to open a credit card through their branch (after all, retail sales numbers are all that matter at these big banks).

 

As for grabbing the bag and running, they take in so many coins, that the bag was already off the machine. I would have had to make it to the vault, look through all the bags for the right one (should've been pretty easy to spot the bag as they used clear plastic bags), then make it back out of the vault/building before the cops got there.
