I live in Central Florida and am planning on attending if Covid19 circumstances do not deterioriate markedly from present conditions. If I go, I hope to have another CT get-together like we did at Summer FUN 2019.
It's a drive for me, so I can still decide at the last moment. I have reservations, and the rates have been going down. Since I don't spend much, if any, time in the U.S. section these days, I might have a better shot at getting service at a table.
BETS! All the folks with masks will be reporting the first offender they see - it's the "snowflake way."
My exposure to large coin shows has been almost exclusively in Long Beach, CA. There are always many foreign vendors there which might be missing with Covid.
Wife and kids have been mentioning Disney the last year or so to me. Being that FUN is in Orlando....... Hhhmmmm...
This was not a problem At the show in Redneckville Georgia. People seemed respectful and generally putting their passion for coins before political ideology. I believe this would be a silly, impossibly-forced rule. 2 customers per table (not necessarily per dealer if the dealer has multiple tables) is probably the most likely. This is what I saw at BRNA. I have hope for our coin collecting bretherin
I can't take the risk. First time I have missed the show in many years. I'm going to miss seeing you guys.
I'm normally over on the ancients forum on CT but happened to see this thread. I live in Orlando and have had a table at the FUN show for many years, and will have one in January. I do not know what the protocol will be at the show as to how many people at a table or how many will be allowed on the floor at any one time. Wish I did but they haven't disclosed that information yet. As to wearing masks ... that will not be a problem whatsoever. The rules are very strict here in Central Florida and masks are absolutely mandatory when you go into any place of business. No mask, no getting in. Period. On that point there is no doubt. I also don't think there's any doubt that attendance, and number of dealers, will be down from previous years but maybe not as much as people are thinking. Obviously most affected will be those who have to travel a large distance to get here. I'll update this forum if I hear anything from the FUN show folks.
I don't know what y'all did for Summer Fun 2019, but I arranged the get-together for Winter FUN 2020. I registered CoinTalk as a member-club with FUN in order to get a reserved room and our listing on the official schedule, with the hopes it would attract more people. I had Peter's full blessing to do this. I'm not planning on being there this year. It's a $20 fee to renew the membership. I'm perfectly happy to renew the membership and arrange for the club meeting, if there will be people attending. I don't want to waste the money if it will only be a couple of people. I was honestly kind of disappointed by the low turnout for our meet-and-greet last year, despite the fairly large number of CT members at the show. (In future years, my vision is to expand beyond a meet-and-greet, and actually have an informative presentation. That'll have to be for 2022) If it's just a couple of people attending, I recommend you make a plan to meet in one of the hotel bars/restaurants like we did on Friday night (which, unfortunately neither of you were able to attend).
You did a great job, Jason, thanks !! I was under the impression that most who were not on the bourse were in our little room, but maybe not. I also appreciated meeting with CT members on the bourse, after-hours, etc. You and John Milton offered good feedback on my long-sought after 1923-D Saint. As I discussed with LDhair in the hotel lounge last January, I think if we are all in the same hotel it's easier to have multiple "quickie" meetings, lunch, dinner, drinks, etc. As this was my 1st time to FUN earlier this year, I stayed at a different location than the rest of you which made meeting up and quick meet-and-greets impractical. It'd be great to be in the same hotel...text a few guys...and have a few drinks to discuss what we saw that day or show some aquisitions. You can do that with all the down time in the AM and PM....plenty of time to meet-and-talk aside from a formal, sit-down dinner (or lunch). Yeah, I had a get-together with one of my old college buddies who I hadn't seen in over a decade. He lives in the area so I got to see his house and then we did dinner. But I did get to see a few of you at other times, but yeah, more formal set dinners/lunches or even snacking sessions are definitely wanted (and easily arranged if we are all in the same hotel).
Yes, I just got my dates mixed up. I agree, I thought there would be a lot more people but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting those that did attend. In fact, @halfcent1793 showed us a coin that I subsequently purchased from him later in the year. I don't think I knew about that but then again I can't even remember which FUN show it was.
If there are any fee$$$ to hold the room and our Coin Talk/FUN status even if we DO NOT ALL MEET because many/most of us don't show...count me in for any expenses, PF. Happy to chip in my fair share.
private entities (Walmart, FUN, etc.) can impose a mask requirement in their stores/shows regardless of the governor’s Orders.
So far the show is over 400 tables - 1/2 normal size but the word that the show will be held is not fully out yet.
Those are dealers who have said they would (like to) come ? Paid a deposit ? Paid in full ? We don't know. It's possible that so many dealers "make their year" at FUN that they go anyway....do their dealer-to-dealer stuff on the 1st day...and then take off and go home. Who knows ?
What Guv did was disallow any fines for not wearing masks. Local government rules and private requirements for mask wearing still apply, you just can't get fined for not obeying. Presumably you also can't get arrested but I didn't see that in the announcement. I was having lunch yesterday with some of my old co-workers (they're still working) and the waitstaff said "masks on except when you are at the table, masks on all other times". I have paraphrased, they were much more diplomatic.
