Hello everyone I have a 1953 wheat that has a bar under Liberty. Not sure what it is. Any thoughts. I did try to mash it with no luck.
Rectangular lamination peel? Hard to Tell also what it is most likely just damage but i don't think so because how it's so perfectly shaped.
I found out from someone that this is a "Bie" cent Listed on "cuds-on-coins.com" as LDB6-1953-001A-6ALRT. It may be a !A or a 1B or !C. Either way it is there.
I am not in charge of "Cuds on Coins", but this is listed under Lincoln ccents die breaks Bie on their site. So that is what I am passing on.
They are listed as "RIT" variety not BIE. You need to check the listed die markers for each one against your coin
Not trying to argue as I do understand it isn’t a BIE error. My words are misleading, but to get to the “RIT” you have to click on the heading I mentioned above. Lincoln cents die breaks- BIE (LDB) or at least that’s how I found it without knowing the actual name to search for.
I vaguely remember this die variety from an old guide book on die varieties published by Frank Spadone in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Don't have any of my old copies, sorry. Might be worth a couple of bucks as a die variety.
According to the "Major Oddity and Variety Guide of United Staets Coins" by Frank Spadone, 1974, it is listed as: '(RJ) connected R-T in Liberty'. Back then is was shown as $3.25 in Fine, $6.50 Unc. I see a recut I in Liberty, also a very common thing for 1953. Very cool.
Never heard of a floating bar except in reference to people hanging out in/around a pool in Arizona. And that is not necessarily a "major oddity", but is considered "very cool"!
When you post something like this it would be a lot easier if you provided a link to the information.
