I was at the INA show today. The hotel required mask wearing, but I would say it was at a 90% level. This upset my wife or perhaps she was ornery about it, probably because I wanted a coin. anyway I found a great walker, was a happy camper and went on. A bigger than normal attendance was at the show, basically because everyone has been waiting for a show. I would assume Sunday will be slower.
I was considering attending, However I had to quarantine because of possible exposer to Covid. Sounds like a good time though!
It was great to have a show and there was a lot of activity; however, the practice of masking was not consistent and some were nonchalant about it, particularly on a busy day
Des Moines. Overall it went well. pretty big crowd, but not everyone was playing it safe which was supposed to be enforced by the hotel. The enthusiasm was numismatics was there. I found Walker that I have been looking for awhile which is uncommon and awesome.
Another local show (about 80 tables) just cancelled. I keep waiting for the next Whitman Show. They keep getting cancelled (all three in 2020). I'm looking towards the March spring show but without a vaccine I'm not holding out much hope. The June summer show has a shot. Normally it's weak but since there's been no big show for almost a year I've got a feeling it'll go bigtime. So I keep working on organizing my current collection.
I grew up in Iowa and left in 1979. I think this show used to be in Ames. Here in Phoenix the local monthly coin show resumed last month (everybody wore masks) with huge attendance and buying activity.
I've been itching to go to a show but until this Covid-19 thing is under control I'm doing my coin thing remotely from home. I don't wan't to end up in a non-TPG slab.
Glad you found a coin you wanted. I have no interest in attending a show where people won't follow the basic guidelines ( like masks, distancing) and the show managers won't enforce the rules. Most coin show attendees are at increased risk due to age alone.
Exactly. Now let's see in a week's + time if we start to see Iowa have an uptick of positive Covid cases! And sadly maybe we'll see what the true "cost" is to acquire a coin in the Covid era? Sad the hotel didn't enforce the basics of prevention. And see if this leads to more cancellation of shows which is a shame for coin collectors across the country.
Here in Idaho Kroger Stores require mask and even provide them for those who have none. But the reality is there are those that refuse to wear masks, even free ones, for whatever reason is beyond me. The few coin shows here in Idaho have been cancelled. The closest shows are in Utah and Nevada. Lucky you! Be safe.
