Hello everyone, Metal Detecting hunt Saturday 10/10/2020 I did a 7 hour detecting hunt at Brooklyn's Prospect Park.. My goal was to find some coins on my Bucket List.. Barber Quarter, Standing Liberty Quarter and Trime. Well it didn't happen. Prospect Park is a famous spot for Detectorists. I have counted 10 of them at times. I can say that the place is getting harder to find good stuff. It's been detected out . IMHO. Here were my finds yesterday. 1 Silver - 1923 Winged Liberty Head 1 Silver - 1959 Roosevelt 1 Silver Ring Tons of Clad, Nickels and Cents 5C - 7 each 10C - 65 each 25C - 59 each 1C - 58 each (Not including wheats) 13 Wheat Cents The rest - 1 Canadian Cent is what is shown
Quite the haul Paddy. Did you call the number on the 'pet medallion' to let the folks know you found their buried dog/cat?
Haha that's really funny! I sometimes text the number with a picture of the dog tag. I actually have received surprised reponses asking where I found their dogs missing tags!
Better finds than I've ever had. I've never even found a wheat cent yet. But I don't go metal detecting as much as you.
It is an excerise.. My lower back knees and thighs get a good workout. I've done sometimes 3 days of detecting and I really feel it afterwards. Just 1 day is rough! I just took 3 motrins because of 7 hours of bending!
Looks like a chunk-a-change, Ed. Once again, you come up with the goods. When do you suspend your disinterment of buried objects? I would expect silver to be buried deeper than clad. What is the average depth for each? Robert
Great questions! Most are pretty deep. Between 6 to 12 inches. It can depend on the type of dirt or soil it is buried in. But I actually have found some 2 or 3 inches deep. My second Walking Liberty Half I found 3 weeks ago was down only 3 inches.
I like Bicentennial Quarters. I notice I always detect 2 of them. These are example of Environmental Damage. Long term exposure Toning to the Cupro-Nickel Clad layers From yesterday..
I meant for coins on my bucket list. I'm sure there are more somewhere but I'm looking for a sweet spot. Prospect park is huge!
One of the guys in my metal detecting club is a NYC history buff.. He knows all the important historical moments of our 5 boroughs. We just follow him to all the locations. By the way.. If I haven't mentioned it. Our Detecting permits are only good in NYC.
3 questions: Which find is your favorite; which coin is your favorite, and which iten is the most valuable?
No permits here. legal to detect in State Forests . I met the Pres. and Vice Pres. of the State Forestry one day detecting. They said No Problema, lol. They congratulated for picking up the trash ! They even sent me a letter thanking me.
Keep piling up those cars and you might be able to sell them to Jay Leno. That is just a jealous remark in my part paddy. Good luck!
