I found five 40% halves of various dates all from one roll from the bank, the other roll had nothing. 2 rolls total. Not bad.

I tried a different bank last week for quarters, and I found nothing, so I was a little disappointed.

The next day, that same bank got robbed, so I was thankful that I'm not just a little more lazy.

They were sold by the roll, not sure if they sold bags or not. But the I think the point that Matt was trying to make was that none of these coins were released for use in circulation. However, the '70-D and the '87-P & D were issued in Mint Sets only.

I just love buying Jefferson nickel rolls. And I find collecting Full Step Jefferson nickels a challenge. I've added many coins to my collection searching through rolls. I've also been able to upgrade several coins as well. I’ve got an awesome Uncirculated nickel roll collection. I have started several albums always dropping the coin I replaced into the next level. Often I’ve found myself replacing a coin with the same grade based on the step count. Thank you FSNC for the pillar count method (Let’s give credit where credit is due). Oh I just love it. For me searching through rolls is so much fun. And to think, all those years ago I was one of them that had NO interest in Jefferson nickels. What have I been missing. Not to mention that some time back a reputable coin magazine had mentioned this series as the sleeper of the century. You still can buy bu rolls for under $5.00 and that has $2.00 face value. Find one coin and you’re a winner. Oh yes, I still like to buy my slabbed 6’s and 7’s but it is nowhere as exciting as searching through rolls. If there is anybody with a low budget interested in coin collecting this is a fantastic place to start.

I checked one roll of lincolns this morning and got four wheats. Actually the teller saved back 2 of them for me. They are a 1950-D, 1940-S, 1955-D, and a 1926 plain. I also picked out a 1972-S in very strong AU. :thumb:

I searched two boxes of pennies and came out with only like 12 wheats.

This is a no brainer...sell them unless you can afford to have $100.00 sitting in a draw doing nothing. The key here is you saying "Fairly Good Condition" which to me means circulated.

I see in my RB the '86 P and D are valued higher than the '87 P and D. Wonder if that could be because the '86 was intended for circulation. I'm assuming these were minted the same way (i.e., unlike a proof coin, for example). Of these CU-NI clads, also, is the '86 the key? Wondering that, too...

The red book quotes prices for MS63 coins only. Since the 1986's circulated and the 1987's did not, finding a 1986 in that grade is probably tougher. I think the 'keys' for MS63 grade are the 1982's and 1983's. There were plenty minted but no mint sets for those years so they are a tougher coin in high grades. Because of the strike quality, I'd guess any regular issue coin MS65 or higher is rare in the clad years.

As for my finds this week, only a 1954-D nickel and a 2004 2 cent euro in a penny roll. Did much better in paper money.

That's the luck I normally have. I searched 5 more rolls that day and found zero wheats.

i usually get 10 rolls of cents at a time and find nothing until the last roll, it happens too much. the best i have done was 8 wheats in that last roll.

well, i wasn't searching a bank roll or anything, but my sister let me go through her coffee can of pennies today. I know it probably isnt worth anything, but i found a really cool penny! Its a 1984 (year i was born, lol) and the color of the penny is all psychadelic looking. :mouth:

I think its kinda funky looking, so ill keep it for sentimental value i guess..

also found a almost black, completely worn out 53 wheat penny, lol..
