At worst there is undeniably coin strikes and rim damage on the obverse and reverse. There is a large strike in the Eagles wing. There is a gouge and nicks on the reverse rim. At best the surfaces appear consistently frosty, most notably the cheek which is very prone to wear. There are little signs of oxidation and the overall appearance of the obverse and reverse does not have terrible distractions. I feel this coin has seen very little handling and most distractions have been caused during the early years of transport. I value this coin at at least $110. 201009_164817.jpg 201009_164722.jpg

Is that toning on the coin or bad lighting reflecting back weird colors?

Nothing majorly distracting on this one. Natural album toning from a dansco. Slight imperfection at the dome on the reverse. Good luster with a bit of tanish toning on reverse along with some rainbow on the rim.

    Coin has great eye appeal.

    Raw, maybe $20.

Slabbed, could easily go over $200 if the grade is 66 or higher.

Imperfection ?? Very honest. This seems worthy of a 5. Great description. Nice Jeff.

Ok... I’ll play. This is a coin that well suits my collecting style. It is a high value/high demand coin in decent shape with some damage. It is the 09-S, VDB cent that plugs the hole in my catalog. I would say is is F-XF range and it has a brutal rim ding.... Without the rim ding I would say this is a $600.00 coin. With the rim ding, I believe it is still a $400.00 coin..... What say you?

That's more than a "ding", it's a "chomp". That said, though, while any dealer you're trying to sell it to will say "it's trash, nobody will buy it", the market demand for these is bottomless.

I don't follow the Lincoln market, so I won't guess at prices, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see it bringing 2/3 of a problem-free coin's price.

The 09-S VDB is on the Mount Rushmore of U.S. coins and will always be in demand in any grade. I'd be proud to own that coin.

I think you can do much better for the same price. I would sacrifice wear and get a worn but undamaged coin instead.

That was honest but you didn't sell me on it. You verbally beat your cent to death.. I give a 4. The fields hint at early strike no?
