As an "expert" on cents, it just looks like it got that chip out from something hitting it, and will start to rot soon. I see a lot of pennies like that and I just throw em back, there's no reason to keep them.

That is a Copper plated Zinc Cent that its plating was compromised. Zinc rot will now form and this could occur.. From my metal detecting finds
