Does anyone collect coins or currency from Singapore? A family member of mine who lives there brought me some coins and thought they looked pretty cool and maybe I wanted to look into. So i was just wondering if anybody collects them. Thanks Nickeldude
Yup, I collect coins and currency of Singapore and rest of the world. Infact we have a forum member, Haidee from Singapore here.
I don't think I've got any coins of singapore per say, however i've got a few malaya/malaysia and straits settlement coins from back when my grandpa was stationed out there.
I like their moderns. There don't seem to be any real scarcities but none are really common in unc. Someone tried promoting the big dollar coins about 15 years ago so you know there are a lot out there. I doubt there will ever be enough interest to make these valuable in gem but the quality is often poor and some gems are scarce. The designs are great so there will be a little interest in the quality coins.
Yeh me too. I like the older designs too. I think I'm going to start trying to collect these coins. Does anybody know of a good place to buy them from? Nickeldude
You'll see them in dealer stock once in a while. There are mint sets that aren't extremely hard to find. Mintages were in the 5 to 10 thousand range and it appears that most were sold in the US. Quality is decent in the sets though some corrosion may be a problem. Prices are pretty low so they don't show up on fixed price lists.
I haven't been to Singhapore for many, many years. All their coins I found in circulation when i was there.

Thalia Elizabeth has a few in her collection, both Singapore and Straits Settlements but it's not something we focus on. I brought a few coins home from a brief business trip there (Singapore and Melbourne in a week including the flights there and back from the US-- yikes!). There are some nice designs.
I have a few from the 80's that my girlfriends cousin got while stationed over there during his Naval experience.
It's good to see you here. I hope you enjoy it. I'd be extremely interested in knowing what the current circulating coinage is and some details about it. What are the oldest coins? What kind of condition are they in? What was circulating 20 years ago. Were any of the old coins recalled? Are uncirculated older coins available for sale? Any information would be extremely valuable to me.
Based on the poor quality pictures, it may be any one of several gold bullion coins, in which case it is worth its weight in gold, plus or minus 10-15%. With a decent picture of the obverse, and either the size or the denomination of the coin, it's purity and actual gold weight could be determined.
Hi, I am from Singapore, u may click on my signature and see some of early issue of Singapore Coin. Singapore start to issue our own coin from 1967, I have complete the whole set from 1967 to 2005. I just post yesterday those Proof Set for 1967, 1968, 1969, 1972, 1973 & 1974. The most rare set is 1972 with mintage of just 749. No proof set was issued in 1970 & 1971.
I like those proof sets. I don't see many here but do have a couple of them. The mint sets are a little easier to find. That's Stuart Devlin who designed all these, is it not? Are the old coins getting worn very much or do they just sit in drawers?
Haha, seriously speaking, I have no idea who is the designer. The 1st series of coin are in circulation from 1967 to 1985. The 2nd series from 1985 till now. Now most of the time u will see 2nd series in use, but once a while u will still get to see some 1st series lying around.
