nice coin kidromeo.. like the coat of arms on the rev. I saw one similar for 15$ a couple months back in a coin shop, but bailed out as i couldnt afford it... irrespective the price u bought... its a fantastic buy :high5:
Yup the double Florin had the same design as the 1 Florin. The 1 florin is about 3mm whereas the double Florin is about 3.4mm but I'm not sure either whether it was double the weight of 1 Florin; seems unlikely.
Well in India, you can't expect to pay catalog price for coins, theres always gonna be ripoffs. The more rarer a coin the more you get ripped off. So I never look at coins from monetary point of view but rather a fun hobby spending on them what I think is right value to me. BTW I got it for $6.50.
hahahahah that has to be the statemnt of the year. india is a place where you can get tiilakji coins for 10 cents in circulation while the market is 50 bucks you need to know where to look
I've only got a godless and a double florin from victoria myself and I'm not too sure if they changed the size of the coin when they chucked out the heathanical design. I've weighed the godless to be 11g and the double to be about 23. To be fair I'm using cooking scales so we don't exactly have pinpoint precision but yeah, the double's roughly double the weight of a normal florin
I was pointing more towards world coins as I got little interest in modern Indian commemorative coinage.
Your estimates are probably right. I never had the opportunity of seeing a double florin at hands so although its not double in diameter but probably much thicker than 1 Florin to pack such weight.
ill take all the tilakjee, 1984/85 5 paise 1988 10 paise calcutta mint that you can find at face and also some others. why didnt u say so sonner 2009 is going to be a great year
I didn't hoard coins until last year when I started international swap and selling; so I doubt whether I'm the right person for you generous offer. Maybe you can sweet talk Mumba into it.:kewl:
dont worry tilakji came out last year Mumbapuri is still learning and you shouldnt be callint it swap and sell it should be called swindle and run
Yeah he better learn fast as I'm thinking about outsourcing a part of my coin business to Bombay and make him Branch Manager
And what about my Lady ? She is much older (292 years) and much pretty ( this is 1840 - 1853 Venice restrike) .
You just posted my favorite silver coin. My friend actually has the first strike Maria Theresia Thaler in XF and its Kiss
Do they still mint these in Austria? I think they're in a habit of minting the 1915 ducats as well - anyone know why they picked those dates?
For the information of Moustan... yes the double florin is the same but bigger... attaching a photo of double florin which is a little black but decipherable. Best wishes, Mike.
Don't know about the Ducats but the Maria Theresia Thalers are restricked throughout the centuries. The last of the restrikes was in 1986. The original first strike coins were minted from 1741 to 1780.
