I won a coin yesterday on ebay. I paid for it right away, today I get this email.

    Dear xxxxxx,

Hi, would you mind leaving feedback for me when your coin arrives. Paypal has put your payment on hold and will not release it until you leave feedback that you recieved your coin. I would appreciate it very much.

    Margaret

Anyone else hear anything about them doing this??

Never heard of such a thing. This unpleasant person is trying to rip you off. Once you leave feedback it means you have received the coin , hence this guy never ships the item and collects your money. Report him a.s.a.p.

I have 2 payments on hold right now.

21-day hold, unless one of two things happens...

    Positive FB from buyer or...

    Delivery Confirmation

PayPig does this a lot, suggest you read the FAQs on their site.

I dont know what is going on. However I dont think it is fraud as the seller is requesting feedback as soon as the coin arrives.

Any good buyer should do that anyway.

NOT FRAUD. Paypal put's payment on hold 21 days!

Give feedback WHEN you get it. Not right away.

I sold an iPod on eBay and my payment from the buyer was on hold as well. I don't like the idea, but what can I do.

Not once has this happened to me. I received more than 50 paypals in the last month up to and over $1800.

I can't say if it's true or not, but I did have a relatively new seller (less than 20 feedback) tell me the same thing. He stated PayPal wouldn't release his funds unless I left feedback.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I received the coins, and they were as stated in the auction description, so I went ahead and left feedback.

It does sound like bull, but if it is true, this is just one more reason to boycott eBay.

They will do that for new sellers, or for items that are commonly used to defraud. It has not happened to me at all, like I said. As soon as it does, no more paypal for me.

I don't understand how that would qualify as a scam? (Even if it were not true, which I do not for sure). I mean, you have the coin. the seller is not making off with your money and the merchandise. You have the coin, and you can leave feedback whenever you want; thus allowing the seller to recieve the payment.

Wow. This is interesting. From what I'm seeing so far, it looks as if it's a combination of the seller and what you're selling?

If so, you should get a notification that your payment will be held for up to 21 days when you originally post the item for sale. Based on the item you're listing and your User ID, they should be able to do that.

Why don't they? Oh yeah, you probably wouldn't list the item - doh.

hmm.. Well, I am a new seller(I started less than a month ago); and I have sold some raw gold for over $400. I received the payment immediately. The buyer also left positive feedback, but I had the money in my paypal account beforehand. I don't get it.

I see what Phoenix is saying though. It doesnt seem like a scam as it can help protect buyers; but it can be quite a hassle for sellers.

Jim, I have been dealing with ebay for a few years now and I would never leave feedback until I received the purchase, after all, I'm not going to give someone feedback on pics. alone.:) The way I see it, (by your statement above) the seller did say leave feedback AFTER you received the coin. I dont think there's any fraud.

One method of fighting back is if all sellers who recieve this type of notice instruct ebay to refund the sale price so negating the deal, ebay/paypal then loose out on the fees, if enough sellers do this then they will look at it again.

Spock, I do agree with you on ebay and paypal, I left them as soon as they started trying to make everyone use paypal only.(no checks/money orders). They are letting GREED take over.

I must apologize for my first response. I thought this seller wanted feedback prior to the buyer receiving the item. My mistake. Sorry about that .. ignore my first response.
