i have a 1912 d half dollar. i put it in a 3x3 cardboard protector and noticed when i lined it up that the front and back are not centered. it looks like the back is turned off center a little. is this an error or are they all like that?

What you may have is a rotated die but if it's off slightly i wouldn't bother in order for these to be of interest or worth a substantial amount of money it would have to be rotated 90 percent CCW or CW

I have a number of 19th Century and early 20th century coins like that, like Joe said, unless it's 90 degrees or more off I don't think they carry any real premium.

In that condition that's about all.

Dead silver melt on the coin is .396 x Spot (A Silver half weighs about .44 of an Oz and it's 90% silver so right at 4/10 oz.

That's about $4.50 or $90/Roll. I think it's worth more than that but not an awful lot more. I can buy Barber Halves like that for about $7 or so each at shows.
