Show her a Coin World mag and point out the dealers who sell expensive stuff. Perhaps that might be something she can relate to - sort of like a high end department store (Nordstroms?) catalogue. :D

    And Leadfoot......you lyin' dog!

Better yet go to heritage and show her the closed auction prices. Something like the Husak collection. Sigh....those I can only dream about.

My most valuable coin is the 1877 indian head cent my deceased father left me. As far as monetary value goes its not worth that much, I have coins worth more. However the sentimental value of that coin to me is priceless. So many times we as collectors pride our collections on their value, its so easy to do.

    Haha, I'll say!! :D ;)

And the most I ever paid for a coin was $105 for a XF+ 1924-D Lincoln Cent, which is no longer in my possesion. ;) (I just sold it a little while ago to some Lincoln Nut in Arizona, haha. ;))

    Phoenix

For reasons not related to anything involving the slim chance criminals are taking notes on my collecting ventures, I won't state what I spend on any coins. I will say I've bought some double eagles in high grade....but back when gold was a reasonable 450 an oz.

In 2003, I spent $575 on my raw 1909 S VDB, XF-40. I've never come close to spending that much again.

Maybe not, but I will bet you now wish you had bought at least 10 of them back then.

Probably the most expensive coin is a 1914 $2.50 gold piece that came with my wife when we married ( It was her Grandmothers) Kiss. Still counting !, but well worth it ( usually):D

And I don't think you're going to have the chance to spend $575 on an XF S-VDB again anytime soon...

Well...look at it this way. There are 3 boats.
Boat A: Is full of people who spend less than you.
Boat B: Is full of people just like you.
Boat C: Is full of people who spend more than you.

We are all in one of those boats. Most likley the large part of collectors are in B and C.
I have bought very few coins last year, and none this year (so far) so at this time I'm in boat A.

Food, Shelter, and Clothing should always come before coins IMHO--if those things are taken care of, then coins could....SHOULD, always come next :D :D
