So I have been going back and forth about this for a while and I can't really decide. I have a complete Peace Dollar Dansco and I love the fact that every coin is there and you can just flip through and look at them and enjoy. I can't decide if I should take the key dates and more valuable ones and have them graded or just leave the entire set as it stands now. Any thoughts or discussion?
If you plan on keeping them, are there any real benefits to grading them? I would honestly prefer them in a Dansco over slabbed, not to mention a complete set would put you back a good bit on grading costs.
I would leave them in the album until you plan to sell the coins. At that point, only grade the key dates and decide if any of the coins have a high enough grade to make them worth sending in.
If you do not intend to sell the set for a while, I would leave it as it is because it seems that you really enjoy it the way it is. The only caution I would give you is to be careful of the album slides. They can mark the high points of the coins with fine parallel marks that can lower the grade.
I concur with the others. Unless you think the keys are very high grade and you plan to sell soon, leave them in the album for your enjoyment.
I would agree with the majority here. Unless you're planning to sell or questioning the authenticity of a particular coin, leave them in the Dansco.
Leave as is, in the set. Add to the set and finish building the set. It's more fun and enjoyable than grading.
Grading doesn't give the coin added value, it gives the coin liquidity. If you are not selling the coins, there really is no reason to have them graded other than the added storage protection, but that shouldn't be an issue as long as you don't remove the coins from the album and store it in a cool, dry place.
