I have only found a mercury dime and a few wheat pennies...let me echo what others have said...sweet find!! Now turn it into your employer as it is his. I kid...
The best coins are the ones we find in circulation... obviously not the nicest, or the most valuable, or the oldest... but just the best. I value that old merc I found as much as any coin I have... pulled from pocket change about six months ago.
At the coin shop up where I go to school they have indian head cents for $1-$2 each (the lower grade ones), and this would probably be in the $1.25 bin I would imagine. lol, my manager did actually give me permission to switch out anything I find plus, he's on vacation
Cool, then again I would have replaced it with a current penny and kept it regardless I found a merc in a tip jar at a place I buy breakfast tacos from in the morning. I pointed out what he had, he said he knew it was in there but was told it wasnt worth more than face value. It was in far better condition than the one jloring has in his profile...so I gave him a dime for it.
I have found a SLQ before and that is probably my best find. Also found a Franklin once. But nice IHC. Never found one like that
I have watched my change since the 60's.....never found an Indian. I did find 2, however, on the ground (without a detector). A 1902, and a 1906; at different times, and on the surface, and in surprisingly good shape. :smile
that's not too bad I got back from work today again... today wasn't nearly as prosperous, lol, I found a 1953 Nickel. No star notes either, I mean, yesterday, when I found the Indian, I also found 2 star notes! (both common, so I didn't bother posting them in the paper money section) I do go back tomorrow though. But now, everytime I crack open a roll, my expectations are so much higher. Before I was just hoping for an early-date wheat cent, now though, I'm looking for the wreath and shield reverse, lol.
its not and IHC but I found a 57 d wheatie at target today I think the best find I've heard of was a $20 gold eagle
I dont know who would spend that. Then again, I have heard of someone finding a 50$ Platinum Bullion  I certainly will! But I doubt it. lol
A drunk guy went into a Circle K and tried to buy a 12 pack, the cashier told him to wait and ran over to the coin shop a "few doors down" to see if it was real and it was so she accepted it. I heard another story at the same shop about a guy who gave away a 1 oz platinum eagle to a kid that helped him get his car unstuck out of the snow..... was in his pocket.... lol
About 15 - 20 years ago, one summer was at an A&W drive-in restaurant, and got change, lo and behold........a 1929 $10 bill given back...great color, I am sure from someones collection. No.....do not have it, sold it to neighbor....what a shame, eh ? mjd
That is one nice IHC! Great find! I heard about a kid who went to a gas station to buy some cigs and paid with 12 silver washingtons.
