Weak, sloppy strike, typical of 1928s. Has nice eye appeal and luster, as I opened the package. Typical of 28s—if you ever see a well-struck one, let me know.
Assumption: all I have to judge is the single set of photos provided. Given this set of pictures, this coin has the look I associate with an AU coin. I see flattened high points (common on weakly struck coins). But I also see widespread darkening on the high points (which may or may not be from the weak strike). But I *also* see significant disruption of the luster in the fields and devices. Particularly, the obverse field in front of Liberty's face, and the reverse field above the eagle. Also, the eagle's body, and throughout the hair. All of these signs point to an AU coin. The disruptions are significant enough that I have to grade it AU-55. Now, it's plausible that the areas I'm seeing may be explained by other phenomenon and the grade may be much higher. After all, @Morgandude11 has recently accused me of having a bad attitude. All I can do is describe the coin as I see it in the pics described, and be honest about what I'm seeing. I won't sugarcoat it.
I don't get it. You ask for opinions, and then yawn at my opinion? We've been back and forth over the past few months, MD11.... I really have no ill-will towards you, but I get the impression that you don't like me or my opinions. Maybe I disagree with you too much? Help me understand you.
You are extremely condescending. End of story. Like or don’t like you? I don’t know you. There are ways to present criticism in a positive, constructive way, and you simply don’t do it on my posts. Obviously, you must have something against me, or you were never taught manners. Either way, I find your critiques pompous.
Definitely a weak strike. Luster seems ok to me, but hard to say, given that it is a classic slider. Obviously, the AU crowd called it correctly. It is the old minor wear versus strike debate. I think on any given day, it would have graded AU, or low grade MS. Evaluation of this date and mint are complicated by the fact that very few well-struck, good looking coins are out there, as 28s coins, that are not wildly overpriced. I got this one to fill a hole in my Peace Dollar set (need a nice 34s also), so it will do, for the time being. By the way, I am happy to receive constructive criticism, but when it comes off as “know it all,” or condescending, there is no patience awarded to that nonsense. Politeness does not cost anything.
