Since elementary school, Christopher Columbus is among one of my favorite historical figures I learned about & I credit that got me into history throughout my life.

I am very excited to recently add this El Salvador Peso featuring Columbus. I have wanted one of these for a very long time.

As a kid growing up in an Italian family we always called "Christopher Columbus" by his real Italian name which was Cristoforo Colombo. Criminal how they slaughtered his name ;)

Funny thing, there was a street named “Cristóbal Colón” in Paraguay. Everyone just call it “Colón” and also that’s what appears in the signs.
I lived there for almost 30 years and never made the connection of the street and name and the historical character.

Same here in Spain. Many streets named after him. Avenida Colón, Calle Cristobal Colón etc.

What does Colon mean in Spanish ? His name in Italian was "Colombo" and that means dove in Italian

It is old Spanish and is taken from the Latin columbo (dove)

Nice coin. I picked up this Columbus recently after seeing it on ebay. I really like the image.

Columbus's remains first buried in Valladolid (Spain), then moved to Seville (Spain), then moved to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), then moved to Havana (Cuba), then moved back to Seville. Travelling around after dead!
