SHOWS CLEAR REFLECTIVITY..... MIRROWED SURFACE... CARTWHELL EFFECT.. PCGS DESIGNATES FULL BELL LINES FOR FRANKLIN HALF DOLLARS THAT GRADE MS 60 OR BETTER AND SHOW FULL SEPARATION OF THE LINES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BELL.. GREAT COIN GOOD OLE BOY

It is great. But, I prefer less reflective look. I would rather have a high end uncirculated. But, this is nice for the proof friends. Very nice.

It just doesn't look right to me.
I think it might have been silver plated.

I guarantee it has not been plated.

There is no FBL designation for Proofs, as proofs are expected to have FBL. FYI

@furham - as for my guess at a grade, I'd say PF67 or PF68, it depends on how hard they it it for the ding on the bell.

I'm not saying it's plated. It looks plated because of the way the "finish" is so thick on the portrait and on all the devices. I'll go 68.

I don't know much about these, but I would venture a PR63 due to the crud on the left hand side of the obverse, the pebbly fields and whatever that is on the bell. If you get it graded, let us know.

I saw the crud but dismissed it as toning, I don't think it will affect the grade.

I agree that the 'crud' looks more like toning or milk spots (Franklin's are notorious for milk spots), and after looking at these on PCGS, I'm resubmitting an estimate of PR64 or PR65 at best. That ding on the bell is enough IMO to drop it hard.

I gotta agree with Kanga, something looks off. Plating blisters in the field, the mark circled in blue shouldn't be on a proof. No definition on bell lines. The pass and stow is mushy... Polish_20200930_182045476.jpg

Edit: Of course I am often wrong and hope it is just the angle of the pictures or something I am not used to seeing.

It looks funny to me. It doesn't look like a proof surface.

I don't think I would send it to be graded. Between the poor strike and ding on the bell, I don't see it getting above 66. I'm thinking more in the 64 area.
I think I'll write off the "not right look" mentioned above as photo effect. I can't figure out why the Pass and Stow looks so weird.

But... for the price of submission an already graded, very nice coin can be purchased.

(had to edit because I accidentally hit submit before finished)

Thanks for all the replies. I have no plans on submitting to a TPG for the reasons stated by others.

Where did you get it and was it sold as a proof?

    Out of a proof set.
