Ahhhh....the world coins, the wonderful world of coins, the wonderful world of world coins....he wonerful world of world cois in my world ... I am talking about the world coins.
Collecting world coins is a great hobby. What a begginer needs is a coins catalog and a loop and plenty of time... money is needed in all hobbies, on world coins you can start spending as low as a few $ every now and then.... One can find coins from a wide variety of sources and a small collection can cost as low as a few cents per coin.
World coins are cool. I don't have many myself but they differ alot more than us coin most have better designs and the older ones pre-1900 cost alot less than us coins
Books and Junk Boxes You can flip through the Krause Standard Catalog and look and look and look... and not really see anything... Looking in the book is a good way to spend some idle time. Myself, I prefer to go through dealer junk boxes. I have found several significant series of coins (China copper from European enclaves, for instance) that I simply missed in the book. At a coin show, in a coin shop, the prices are so low that you can afford to buy quite a few interesting coins and then find out about the times and places they come from.
Well that is absolutely true... I have a junk box with a few thousand coins ( i can't lift it alone to give you an idea of its weight! ) which go as low as 10c!!!
And the best thing is when youngsters are puting their hands to "touch the money"... I can't resist donate a handfull now or then!!! It is a terrific momment when those surprised eyes look at you!!!
With US coins touching is a big No No, the kids would get their hands slapped if they tried touching them. But that is just for Unc coins. I guess circ. silver can be handled. anyway I'm starting to think world coins are cool.
What I like about world coins is that I can get all kinds of cool stuff for not much money. Usually from Coinman. If you have any interest in world coins, and you have not checked out his site, you need to. It could be the most fun 15 or 20 bucks you ever spent!
He puts a link at the bottom of his posts, and he also has a banner ad that runs here...in fact I am looking at it right now! http://www.cacoins.com I have not been disappointed with anything I have purchased from him. Good stuff. I mostly stick to the cheapies, but they sure look good!
I thought the only threads on CT older than Doug had to be chiseled into stone and mailed by mammoth back and forth between members.
