So, I went to work today at the bakery in the afternoon. Of course, when I get a chance I look through the money and crack open some rolls when some coinage gets low. Anyway, it was about an hour and half before I was going to leave, and I decided to crack open a roll of cents, didn't really need to, but I thought it would be fun (I'm sure other people do that too ) Out pops this: I thought, "that looks like the reverse of an Indian Head cent! - but maybe it's a foreign coin" (I didn't want to excite myself) So I flip it over... yup!!! Now my oldest coin found in circulation/register Previous record was a 1919 Wheat Cent.
Nice! The best thing I've ever found in a cash register would be a buffalo nickel... not nearly as awesome as that cent.
Wow! That cent's in great condition. Who knows how long it's been sitting around in a jar or a drawer somewhere. A great find.
I've found one of those too: http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t42967/ But yeah, this was a great way to end the year... I do work tomorrow and the day after though... but I doubt I can beat this. lol Heck, I doubt I can beat it next year, but ya never know I was also surprised that it was from the 1880's. You would think that it would be a later one, like late 1890's onward.
Wow! hya: That is a sweet find. It's probably at least a fine. I'm surprised all the letters in Liberty are visible. That's a rare find.
That is awesome! I really need to get back into roll searching, because now is probably a great time for finds like that, with people cashing in age old buckets of change for gas money and whatnot.
Oh man! So thats where I left it. I was hoping someone would find it and return it to me. Thanks Nice find BTW! I like how you can read Liberty on the head band.
Nice find Magman. I think the oldest I ever found was an 1898 Indian and I KNOW I went through a lot more change than you did over the years.
Nice find! I have found Buffalo's, a Mercury Dime Walkers, and Franklin Halves...but never an IHC. Awesome find!!! :thumb:
thanks -- at least you've found Silver though (you did work at a Bank too) I've only found 1 silver dime in the cash registers since the beginning of Summer. Still not too shabby though
I've never worked anywhere that requires a cashregister, but my now-ex called me up one day and told me she pulled a buffalo nickel out of the register at UPS. I was like HOLY COW CAN I HAVE IT?!?! she just laughed and gave it to me....I think it's a 1915, but it's in bad shape. no silver left, all rusty...but I still keep it = )
Sweet! My best circulation find to date was a 1909 vdb cent in fine condition! I was exstatic!! I must of looked at it a million times under a loupe, hoping that an "s" would magically appear under the "1909". No such luck. I'm sure it came out of a collection somewhere.
