The NCNA Convention & Coin Show is in Charlotte North Carolina this weekend (Thursday thru Sunday). The bourse is floor is 70,000 square feet. According to the email I got it is one way traffic through the bourse and all tables are spaced 10' apart...... Anyone here plan to go? I am thinking really hard about it myself.
Two and a half hours away -- that's almost tempting. But, no, probably not. It's still a bit early IMHO. I'm not sure what they expect to accomplish with one-way traffic. In my experience (grocery stores and Walmart), that just makes for more contact, as people wander the length of two aisles to move backward in one. And, of course, good luck telling collectors which direction to walk.
According to CDC, WHO, and Johns Hopkins University data; North Carolina is currently #7 in the country as far as infections (200,000+). From 12-25 September, they added over 22,000 positive cases. It looks like they are nowhere near getting anything under control and I wouldn't risk my or my family's health to go wander around a coin show. Like @-jeffB said, good luck getting people to stick to the rules. Then again, I've been called a coward, an idiot, a sheep, and a whole host of other names by members on here regarding my stance on the virus sooooo, you do you I suppose.

I've never been to a coin show before. Wish I lived near one. Infact, I wish I atleast lived near a coin shop. The nearest is almost an hour away.
Well... Then it could be said that I too am a coward, idiot, sheep and whatever else. I think you are reasonable in your assessment.
Glad I saw this, thanks for sharing!! I might try to go, we live in the middle of the state but recently got a house in western nc so ill be passing through Charlotte. Though I hate going to Charlotte. I'll have to convince the family of the detour. Haha! I'm not worried about the virus but, I've never been to a coin show and even thouh I would want to buy many coins, I'm worries about fakes. I don't have decades of experience. Just the usual tools.
You can usually feel fairly confident in the coins you pick up at a show. Dealers don’t want to be known for passing on fakes. Just purchase wisely and try not to look too hungry when you are looking at the coins!
Not looking hungry will be the hard part. You're right. It's just that recently I picked up a Morgan from a good dealer but the weight has me weary. So now I'm on edge I can't start a thread yet but would share the coin. It's really worn and comes in at 25.58g.

North Carolina is currently #9 in population, so the stats you cite are pretty much in line. You need to look at cases per capita to draw any meaningful conclusions.
The biggest concern at least on my end were the 22,000 new cases from 12-25 September. That's a pretty big increase.
We just had a 50+ table show in SLC. ANA Pres Steve Ellsworth even had a couple of tables. The next one is 30 miles north in Layton, UT Oct. 9&10. No virus hits from the last show the end of June. People are hungry to get together.
No shows for me untill the rate is steadily declining. Love the camaraderie and being able to add a few coins to my collection but I don't see the risk being worth it.
Fairly confident is really an overstatement. While yes most don't want to sell fakes it does happen, but more importantly it's the trap coins that are the real worry. There's plenty of raw coins at shows that were cracked out of details slabs being sold as a straight grade or AUs being sold as MS. These dealers are all over the place at regional and local shows. It's by far one of the most dangerous environments for a new collector for raw classic coins especially more valuable ones. Moderns and world it's not as much of an issue usually
Unfortunately, there are a lot of dealers that don't know if a coin is counterfeit or not unless it is in a slab. All they know how to do is trade plastic.
