    Just random scratches, IMHO.

Ask yourself why 'damnatio memoriae' wasn't mentioned.

Minor scratches don't require comment apparently.

Ancient coins have a much lower bar set for them than modern coins with grading companies when it comes to condition. If this was a modern coin in the same condition it quite likely wouldn't have been graded beyond "details genuine" or some such.

Because it is ancient it gets a pass and the scratches, pitting, possible legend alteration (the second line on the reverse seems to be missing letters?), and scrapes all get overlooked.

..most likely because of its graded VG....if they'd upgraded it to 'F' it would have been... slabbed coins 001.JPG slabbed coins 002.JPG

No, that's how the line is supposed to look; it's the word OB with a space between the two letters. The last 3 lines read OB CIVES SERVATOS (For Saving the Citizens). See the same word, presented with a smaller space between the letters, on the reverse of my Galba denarius:

(On my coin, CIVES SERVATOS is abbreviated.)

At least they didn't label it "Cleaned" :)
