    1848 looks like N-35 which is R-2

    Going with N-20 late die state on the 1849 R-1

    Interesting.
    I haven't relooked at the pictures in Grellman's book to see if I can understand the "late die state" analysis.
    Best guess at the moment is the lack of details on the leaves on the reverse.

    I still have about 4 more to post and get opinions about.
    I have most of the Red Book listed varieties.

    Date position was my first go to. As far as early vs late die stage there are lines on reverse that are visible early but not in late stage.
