CT link pointing at an non-existent page at Wildwinds

I have no idea if this can be posted here:

I was researching coins from Nikopolis ad Istrum and followed this link

which opened this page with an error message:

http://www.wildwinds.com/moushmov/legates.html

So I sent an email to Dane at Wildwinds and she emailed me back saying that "the error is not on wildwinds, it is on cointalk, pointing to a page which has not existed for at least 10 years.
Please ask a moderator on cointalk to remove that link."

The correct link would be

http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/moushmov/legates.html

She has been getting loads of errors in her error log from numerous incorrect links on cointalk for the past number of years....

I don't know if that could be fixed on the CT side. I highly doubt it. Whenever someone posts a link to something like wildwinds, they are capturing that link for that moment in time.

Those websites are living and breathing (hopefully) sites that change and fix their stuff which changes the address.

 

Maybe the moderator can edit and change the link in the post?

Guess that for Dane it is quite annoying to get like he says loads of error messages that he can't fix with the technology he is using

 

Maybe a moderator like @lordmarcovan can go in and edit it (if that is allowed).

 

I believe that Dane is a she. One of the more prominent "Women in Numismatics," to use the title of a thread from a while ago.

Roman Numismatics. How did you become an expert in ancient coins?
“When I was at school I wanted to be either a police detective or an archaeologist. I was half an inch too small to join the police, although I had been a police cadet (a voluntary organisation at the time for teenagers) and there was nowhere in my area where I could study archaeology, although one far-sighted locum teacher once took some of us on a field trip to Lancaster (NW England) and we visited an archaeological dig. Later, with the advent of metal detectors and the internet I was able to buy a small group of Roman coins from a German dealer and my old love of history and archaeology was re-awakened. I started collecting coins and numismatic books and fortunately I am a quick learner and it all went from there. I used to send images and information with the correct references to my friend Dave Surber from California, who founded the wildwinds.com website and he would add them to the wildwinds database. Some dealers started sending me images for wildwinds. Then Dave tragically died in February 2009 and although some people thought I was the right person to continue, I didn’t have the money for the server costs. Fortunately at that time, an experienced English antiquities and coin company, Timeline Originals, for whom I had been identifying ancient coins for several years, stepped in and offered to buy wildwinds from Dave’s widow and have me look after the job of adding coins etc. And that is what happened.”

Actually, the bad "legates" link is still on the Moushmov introductory page on the Wildwinds site. I've emailed Dane and let her know this.

 

I emailed Dane once regarding a coin of Aemilianus that was improperly identified. She responded right away. Impressive and dedicated!

What is hotlinking? I've never heard that term.
