The Red Book says Braided Hair Large Cents were struck on copper. Is that true or should it be bronze?
I looked in a second reference and it says the same thing -- 100% copper. Caught me totally by surprise.
They went to the small cent (flying eagle) made from a copper alloy in part because copper was getting expensive!

I agree with a few. But think a lot of the ankle biter breeds belong there. Also in my experience pits and boxers. Friendly and stupid. Great dogs if they’re treated right loyal and strong. Just numb what are the so called smartest breeds

Bronze wasn't introduced into the coinage until 1864 and there is documentation in the archives from the early 1860's discussing the possibility of using it. So it wasn't used before that during the time of the large cents. During the late 1850's when they were discussing what to do about the large cent which was now beginning to cost more than its face value, the suggestions were either a smaller copper coin or the copper nickel alloy that was adopted, not bronze.
