I am curious what the wise and experienced members of CF would recommend as the optimal acquisition method for the new UHR Double Eagle. Should one order from the US Mint? Perhaps from a third-party vendor such as Apmex? Will there be any cost or availablility advantage by doing so? Any guesses on whether there shall be cost or availability issues similar to the Mint's 2008 "challenges?" Thank you in advance, and Happy New Year to you all.
Depends on the # of blanks the Mint can aquire. They are low on gold blanks, but with a unlimited mintage who knows. I'll get at least 1 from the Mint to satisfy my curiosity.
i will not buy any of it. because it does not look like a real coin. the thickness. it is too thick. unrealistic. the diameter. not like the size of original $20.00 gold coin. it is smaller.
In all the new about this coin I seen a price $1009.00 I do not know if it right. but coin world & a other new paper or a mint update but somewhere I seen this porpoised price
The size of the 2009 UHR is the original size of the 1907 UHR St. Gaudens. There are only 2 of the 1907's in this size, both in the Smithsonian. The Mint had problems with these and went non-UHR with 34mm diameter later that year.......but the 34mm are the ones put into circulation. JMO but I think the price will be apx. $1100.
whew for a while i was worried. i hope the mint ships these they still havent shipped the firt poue coins to me
they got competition. but not the u.s. coins. they don't make u.s. coins. i think the price of $20.00 uncirculated gold coin will be price at $1,249.95. based on today's price of $869.50 per ounce. if the israel palestine conflict escalated. then the price of gold will go up again. then, of course it will be adjusted again at higher price. if ever they produce a proof gold coin. the price will be at least $100.00 to $150.00 above the stated price. that means $1,349.95 to $1,499.95. to calculate the new adjusting price because of the gold up and down fluctuation. simply multiply the % up or down from the spot gold. you will come up the approximated price for the $20.00 gold coin.
elaine, I know you follow the U.S. Mint pricing quite closely. How much percentage over spot has, in the past, and will, this coming year, the Mint price it's gold coins. (In your best estimate). Bruce
as i said before. at $869.50. the price will be around $1,249.95. as of this writing, the gold is up at $886.60 an ounce. so the new price should be around $1,274.95 for uncirculated.
Elaine, we have already determined that the price is not set by the current market, but rather by what the price of the gold was at the time the mint purchased it. The gold for the initial production of these coins has already been purchased and would even go as far to say that it was purchased a month or two months ago or maybe even longer.
when the price of gold is down. then they followed what you have said. but when it go up. then the price is up accordingly to what you want to sell or simply declare the product is not available.
I am not going to be too surprised if these get held off for awhile. Me thinks the government is not overly eager to sell the gold that it will have to turn around and steal back from the buyers in the next few months. Why go to all the trouble?
Since we're guessing price, I'll guess it will be between $1750 and $2000 (i.e., double spot price). You don't think that the Mint is going to price this special issue at "normal" pricing, do you? This will be a maximum profit offering.
