Looking to buy a coin from Coast to Coast coin. Looking for information from people who have dealt with them. Good or bad?
Never have any dealings ,but they are local ,no store front, just internet sales. I prefer Golden Eagle over Off Ft. Meade area Md. RT 198 . As to your question never heard any negative about them.
I have made a few purchases from them. I have had no issues. They have gone to entirely slabbed coins (they used to sell raw coins). Their prices are not bad.
I have to differ with paddy. I am not a fan of Golden Eagle. They are my LCS and their prices are not really better or worse than any other online retailer. Their in-person store has pretty awful customer service. They are pretty rude and always make it seem like you are a hassle to them. Sorry Paddy, you know I love ya
I bought a few coins from Coast to Coast. If you've looked at their offerings you've probably noticed that they lean heavily toward the top end of the grading scale. But if that's what you're looking for they are a good dealer. I had no difficulties with my purchases.
You probably are. No offense to you personally, but they will probably make a lot more from their online business during the time they spend with you than they will make from you. So from a "bottom line" view, you are an interruption.
I just don't know what to say if a business thinks a customer is a hassle...is this what this business has become?
Customer service has always been an issue for this hobby. I have met plenty of helpful and friendly dealers and sellers over the years, but I have met far more distant, condescending and gruff ones. Just a year or two ago I was at a show and I started a conversation up with an ancients dealer. He was incredibly friendly and chatty as we talked about our backgrounds. I saw that he had a Marcus Aurelius, so I asked to see it. He happily and cheerfully pulled it out and I looked it over. It wasn't the coin I wanted so I handed it back to him and the second I handed it back his smile turned into a frown and he looked away from me and didn't say another word. It was a shocking instantaneous transformation. I was going to ask to see another coin, but after seeing his entire face drop like that I decided to leave quickly. That episode really stuck with me. At another show I was surprised to see a table full of hammered coins. I had never seen hammered coins at this particular show, so I enthusiastically looked over the table. There were 3 or 4 well dressed people at the table and no other customers. Not one of them even acknowledged my existence. There is no way they didn't see me because I had to lean over the table to see the coins. I was dressed in weekend duds and so maybe they thought that I didn't look like someone who could buy such coins, but I owned a few of the coins in their case already. I looked at the people sitting at the table and not one of them made eye contact or said a word. So I left the table. I might have bought something from them otherwise. These are just a few of the very recent experiences I've had and I can understand why newcomers to the hobby would feel extremely put off by such behavior. I will not buy from someone who outright ignores me, regardless of what they have in their stock, especially if I am the only one at the table at the time, which was the case in both instances above.
