I had won this coin in an auction recently and it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s uncirculated and shows no signs of being cleaned under a loupe. I wanted to know what you guys thought about getting this one graded or not? It’s also covered in a very light oil I thin? Almost all of my large cents coronet and braided have had this very light oil on it. I’m assuming this is a safe way to preserve the coin? Thank you for any advice and or suggestions! 6884F547-AD9B-408A-8DCC-95993EAAD28C.jpeg EFA4FBF1-226F-4709-BE00-F6E5952B6215.jpeg

If that's a scratch on her face it won't straight grade.

Nice looking, there is a product which the name escapes me st the moment, that is used on copper coins. It makes them shiny, protects them (their claim) and it leaves a oily surface.

Thank you!! I’m pumped I won un
der 100$ I think people were nervous about the sellers pictures because he made them look black. Alright thank you for the info just wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to get the coin sent back AU details.

Beautiful coin but I think @furham is correct if that scratch is on the coin.
Wait and see what others think.

If anything holds it back from a straight grade it's that scratch on the cheek.

I wish I knew more about these, and the care of them, and all that jazz. I'm pretty clueless so I steer clear of them entirely.

VerdiCare will leave a film on the surface that is supposed to be protective, but I'm not sure how long it lasts.

I don’t know to much myself but dabble a little bit I know this is one of the better ones I’ve seen yet!

That’s probably what it is I’ve purchased a handful of these types and most have it with the same smell

I will take a look under the loupe when I get home here soon I don’t think I saw anything but the coin is very dark I may have missed it. What do you think they would grade it as with that scratch? Or would it be not graded?

Well the verdict issss... it’s a scratch :/ any idea if it’s worth trying to grade or just sell this one via auction on my store selection?

Some scratches grade and some don't. The first slab I ever bought was a large cent that was in a "details" slab. I posted it here and (as far as I remember) the consensus was a scratch, although I couldn't see it.

I’ve heard that from other people as well.. hmm so now I need to decide if I should auction it or take a chance and get it graded..

That big goober in front of her nose won't help either...time to call in the big guns and ask @Insider in it would grade clean or not... now wait

Won’t grade straight. The scratch plus the funky surfaces

AU Details. Not worth the cost of submission IMO.

It's probably some kind of oil (olive, maybe?) rather than VerdiCare, because:

    1) VerdiCare has no particular smell, at least as far as I've noticed.

    2) VerdiCare eventually dries and leaves a very subtle satin-y sheen, not an oily look.

    3) And most obviously, if it were VerdiCare, there wouldn't be those spots of verdigris on the reverse.

The little cap pistol has been summoned. The coin is high grade but "nasty." It needs to be cleaned up to remove the oil (usually Coin Care) and the built-up crud that collects on oiled Large cents coins over time. IMO, not worth the price of grading as it is now. Looks like some light corrosion (black color).

A "doctor" would strip it :jawdrop::facepalm: and recolor :stop: it so the surface is uniform. ;)

Thank you!! From everyone’s advice I’m going to skip the grading and find the rightful owner for it
