The date is what got me also..which is why I think it is questionable.

Look at the edge. Granted, it could be a MAD strike, but it could also be a fake.

Are you talking about after the rim? the coin is in a metal Money clip, so that is why it looks like that.

Don't know what Doug is looking at, but it looks ok to me. Besides, a fake would probably be worth more than that date of that grade.

This is the money clip - marked in black.

This is the reeded edge of the coin - marked in red.

This is also the edge of the coin - marked in blue. Do you see any reeding on the portion marked in blue ? And do you see the step on the edge between the reeding and smooth portion ?

I may be wrong, but it looks to me like the reeding we're seeing isn't exactly on the coin, but reflected upon the metal the coin is attatched to, making for a double or stepped rim. A straight on shot of the coin with the clip would probably help.

I doubt it's reflected since the background of the clip is black. Look at the upper right and upper left corners of the pic Guy, you can clearly see that the reeding goes to the top of the edge there. And that it changes just below those spots to a stepped condition.

That is the only thing that makes me skeptical.

That reeding has to be in the clip/holder/etc... looking at that coin head on the reeding won't be noticeable. I'm actually holding a '39 in my had right now in virtually the exact same grade.

Pictured coin looks real to me, besides, what's an F/VF 39 worth anyways? Not very much.

I do believe the reeding is just a trim around the coin that whoever made the clip put on besides that the coin look's real to me.
