    Oh boy. I was looking for some 1998 Wide AM pennies, and I was looking at them through my stereo microscope and out of sheer curiosity I put this 1960 D under it. The D looked weird. Almost doubled. I would like to know what you think and if you have a value I would like to hear it. It looks to be either XF or AU. Thanks!

    First of all, it wouldn't be doubled. It would be an RPM, but I can't tell from your image. Can you give us a better close-up of just the mintmark, please?

    looks like a well defined RPM (Repunched Mint Mark)

    It could be a 001 as shown here == > http://www.varietyvista.com/02b LC RPMs Vol 2/RPMs 1960D (1-60).htm

    back before 1989 Mint Marks were punched by Hand after the Dies were made. So a D/D die is not correlated to the Mint Mark. The Mint Marks were hand punched on to the die. Sometimes the 2nd punch, or maintenance punch was visually misaligned, thus called a RPM.

    Yup! This is the first big find I've had aside from the 1998 wide AM earlier today

    How would I mark it?
    A 1960-D RPM-001 XF-40?

    That's how I mark mine. Minus the grade.

    It is difficult to give a grade of a coin without actually seeing the entire coin obverse and reverse.

    If you go by your judgement then it would be fine.

    Yeah. It looks like a solid XF
