Well, I know cherrypicking is searching for varieties and errors in dealers stock the the dealer is unaware sre in his stock. After purchasing coins I buy sight unseen I check the for varieties and/or errors on several occasions I have found I have purchased not only a coin I wanted but also the coin I wanted with a bonus. My lasted being a 1939 Proof Jefferson Nickel PCGS PF66 with unattributed DDR. This is not the first variety I have purchased unbenouced to me. Just wondering what great purchases you all have been pleasantly surprised with once you received the coin in hand?
I've received two barber dimes from an internet dealer which turned out to be varieties. There was no way I could have seen it in the dealer photo.
I bought a counterfiet 1914 D and a 22 Plain from a dealer and they were both graded VF and VG respectively by PCGS.
i purchased a 1967 SM set on ebay for 12 dollars. when i got it much to my surprise. it contained a quarter that has a DDO and in ms 66 in the CP guide is valued at 1600 dollars. needless to say it is at PCGS right now.
Hobo: Nice. Mine was not as impressive. I got a 'fake' $2 1/2 gold for a couple of bucks. Sold it at the ANA. It was genuine, with a scratch.
