I just started going on eBay for auctions and ended up bidding $5.50 on this one: Pcgs # checks out, and the price guide says it's worth $15, so I think it was a good buy. Sniped it at the very end. I think it's cool because I don't have any graded coins in my collection. Also, this is literally my first and only auction win. I don't usually bid on things, but I started doing it a few days ago. And won this.

Better watch out, you'll get addicted! But seriously, be sure to set boundaries and don't overbid in the heat of the moment. It's a good rule to set a maximum amount you'll pay and stick with it, no matter what.
yes, it's easy to get auction fever and be more worried about beating the other guy than getting what you want at a good price. you're going to lose a lot of auctions, but it's better than looking back with regret because you paid way too much for something.
Nice. Welcome to coin collecting. It can be addicting. My suggestion is to continue purchasing PCGS (or NGC) graded coins. Buying coins "raw" (meaning ungraded) is seriously risky.
I will definitely buy graded coins if they are rare... But you know, I've been collecting for about 8 years. Just never bought any slabbed coins.
Do what you like and feel comfortable with. It's not a bad idea to start small (with cheaper coins) until you learn more. You remind me of when I started. I bought hundred of coins at <$25. You then realize someday they take up a lot of room and none of them are uncommon. Today, I much rather own 10 coins worth $100 each than 100 coins worth $10 each. Not knocking what you're doing, just saying how my progression went. I think you'll find a lot of long-time collectors went the same way.
Congrats! I usually do "buy it now" or "make an offer" on ebay, just because i dont have patience for keeping up and bidding and losing auctions all the time. But, i have been pretty successful getting Morgan's at a great price. Good luck as you continue!
Not buying any more coins for a little while. And again, I think I know what I'm doing... Been collecting for 8 years. Another thing... Being 14, I'm not going to spend a heck ton of money on coins because I need it for driver's training, and then later a car. And then a lot of other things.
Happy for you! I won an ebay auction once, the seller refunded me and refused to sell it saying I got it for too cheap, and If I'd like I could buy it after he relists it with a BIN and higher starting price. I've been turned off on Ebay ever since.
I started collecting when i was 9, i'm 42 now. there have been times where i've sold my whole collection out of necessity, and years where i didn't buy a single coin, but i'm still collecting now, because i can't seem to quit.
I was going to recommend this one when I saw the advert from this seller this morning. It will be available in 6 days...then I saw the price tag on last year's model. That's never happened to me. In one instance, a seller in WV had listed a 1924 quarter which he described as AU condition. When it arrived it was in a PCGS MS-66 paper container (not slab). The seller included a few Mercury dimes as a lagniappe.
