Late roman bronze as to be expected, one is silvered. When I factor in the fun I get from cleaning them and thrill of winning the lottery in a way, it makes it quite worth the almost 5 per coin I payed to me.
Those are beautiful, I agree. I never heard of a NRC. I especially like the silvered one, a lot. I just worked a few hours tonight on a new batch of coins I purchased on ebay. Most are over a quarter in size, some really encrusted. BTW, if you’re interested I have a coin conserving account on Instagram where I document my experiments conserving ancients. Just started less than a year ago and am learning a lot. name is: ancientcoinconserve
Noble roman coins is a website owned by a guy named Kevin, he specializes in ancients and uncleaned ancients, the coins you see here are from him and I ordered them uncleaned. Was very nice to see a silvered ancient in the lot, it looked like a straight up dirtied bronze before I cleaned it.
As long as you are happy with your purchase, more power to you. Is that a Spes reverse on the second coin?
Looks nicer than most of the coins I got from NRC. 95% of them were pretty much slugs. Even the so-called "premium uncleaned" coins.
Back in 2005 when I was interested in crusties and surprises Kevin was the only one I bought from. Always kind and considerate, always sending more coins than I had paid for, always ready to reply with advice on cleaning. Why would people here not like him?
I looked up the reverse types for the coin, but didn't get any matches to that. I'm not familiar enough as well.
Not sure, some folks on the ancientcoins sub reddit expressed NRC negatively. But so far, I'm very pleased.
That's what I hear mostly from people who've bought from there. Though these two are the only ones I ordered and they turned out pretty well!
I'm wondering if it is a SPES REI-PVBLICAE typr: http://numismatics.org/ocre/results...ext:spes+AND+authority_facet:"Constantius+II"
I get all of my ancients in lots of uncleaned coins. I prefer some that are otherwise unrecognizable. I have about 100 cleaned and cataloged. To me this is like coin hunting in the old days when you could find anything in change.
This coin is really crude at the moment. I need to finish and smooth it. I find it to be Constantine I, SOLI INVICTO COMITI with Mint Mark R Star ? which could be P, S, T or Q. The raw coins it came from and progress shots are above.
I'm not sure why the first link I sent came up "No Results Found" , but here's another example: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=63371 It's actually a fairly common type.
