It saddens me people do these things to coins with such value and beauty but I could be wrong? There’s a lot of hairline scratches more noticeably on the reverse then obverse that could mean cleaning but I’m also confused because I’ve been told that coins that I thought were cleaned were not. Either normal wear or from the mint process. Can anyone give me some more insight on this coin before I send it off for grading, definitely don’t want to waste time and money on a slab saying “details” thank you in advance!
I think those are cleaning scratches and it'll come back body bagged. Wait for someone who knows what they are talking about though...
I’m agreeing with you 100%.. it’s hard doing this buying online for my online store, especially with well taken pictures. Thank god for full refund returns..
The condition of the coin makes it a perfect candidate for cleaning. A shined up VG is clearly a shined up VG, and an MS-63 is too dangerous to risk damage. Just saying. Yeah, it appears to have been cleaned, but the lighting makes it look more washed out than it might be in-hand. So that doesn't help the situation.
Here are some more photos with natural lighting, it’s unnoticeable with the naked eye so that’s why I ask.
Even at MS60, this would be a $100-$150 coin if it grades. I wouldn't do it, but it is your coin and it is pretty.
From CoinWeek "NGC uses the Full Head (FH) designation for coins where Liberty's head appears well-struck, as follows: three leaves in Liberty's hair must be totally visible; the hairline along Liberty's brow must be complete; the ear indentation must be evident."
It won't straight grade so it would be a waste of money. Definitely cleaned and on the harsh side at that.
To me, it looks like it was cleaned twice, 1st time really harshly, then maybe soaked? With the nooks and crannies so clean? Wouldn't bother grading.
24-S is a good coin. However, besides the cleaning scratches, you can see in the normal lighting photos, the coin looks clean, but there's no luster at all. That's 2 red flags right there. Apart from a hole filler at a low price, it's a pass.
