The contract for the Battle Creek hoard had an agreement that every straight graded coin received a star. The other coins are just marked as uncirculated without any grade.

    https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/272/

“Every coin is encapsulated with the pedigree Battle Creek Collection, and, even more significantly, each graded coin in the collection has received NGC's coveted star designation for superior eye appeal.”

    That was for the toners.

    Was yours not toned?
I'd be interested in seeing it as I have only seen them with stars or no grade (Uncirculated label).

That is because I sent it to PCGS for upgrade. No star.. It was a 64 PL. :)
I kinda got screwed on that deal. No designation, and just 1 grade upgrade.

I think I knew that, and as a result, I think some of those coins are the most egregious applications of the star designation.

5.0, that’s a very cool coin. If it was gem or premium gem, it would approach monster status.

You got that. If it were gem or high gem, I could not have afforded it.

I have thought if it would cross in grade, I would send it to NGC, for the star. I will post a larger beauty shot of the obverse, as I have questions that it would cross at 63 star.

I think it might be more like 61 or 62. It is pretty baggy.

I don’t see it any lower than 62. It’s not the grade on this one it’s the color

    5.1 ....I like it

....the hits are there but it looks perfectly acceptable as a 63. Unfortunately NGC does not allow cross overs for anything but PCGS. PCGS allows cross overs from all companies.

I never knew that. Wow, all these years, as I never tried to cross anything but PCGS and NGC coins. Learned something new every day.
