This is been sitting in my Dansko album for 20 years. I was trying to price it to sell it and I was shocked by how much prices have gone up on these. This one album toned nicely. What do you think it’s worth?

There’s no way this is a proof, right?

I’m touching the sides only. I won’t stop doing that. I won’t wear gloves when it’s not warranted.

Yes, I shouldn't have said anything. I apologize. It is a very nice 1909.

Well now I feel bad, LOL. I’ve seen people wear gloves that didn’t really need to and I’ve seen people handle coins terribly who should know better. Never forget the time my local dealer held a coin in the palm of his hand that I was interested in buying.

I've had that happen and had to walk away without buying. Keep us up to date about the value of that '09.

Here’s another one. This one has no VDB. Were proofs of this variety ever found? The rims on this one seem very square. How do you know if you have a mat proof?

Proofs were made with and without the VDB. Learning how to spot a matte proof takes a bit of study. Having one in hand to see and study would be a big help. They have a special look that's tough to put into words.

This proof will give you an idea of what the square rims should look like.

Perfect. That clarifies so much. Wire rims go all the way around.

Your 1909 in post 10 is not a Matte Proof. Google Matte Proof Lincolns for the characteristics.
