If nothing else, it will give me practice. Your photo by the way, is phenomenal. Much better than any in the book.

I don’t find them or Large cents particularly hard to attribute. Or any coin really if I take the time. Busts can be addictive

The Red Book does the same to me it's so big by the time you reach the middle it breaks into two halves. It's contains a wealth of knowledge though. Keep reading!

The bust half book is pretty easy to use, the descriptions are pretty good, the coins are bigger and they tend to be in better condition than the coins I collect, And it is much easier than the ones for those series after full die hubbing was introduced and every die is the same except for date placement and tiny little marks in the different dies.

A magnifier with a built in measuring reticle works real well for that. they aren't cheap, but they are handy.

One of my problems lately is that I cannot find my loupes. I know that I had a bag of them but they are nowhere to be found.

    Drats.

Just don't start with an 1827! Practice helps.
You learn to scan them for anything that looks a bit out of the ordinary (letter alignments, where star 7 points to the headband, uneven spacing in the lettering and date) and often you pick up on something.

Well, well, well, didn't know such a thing existed. Sounds like an Amazon search is warranted.
