I can't read his mind anymore than I can read yours. But, I have seen no evidence of intent to deceive. As far as I have seen, he is very open about what he produces and what they are.

Yes, anyone intending to deceive wouldn’t make the coins with dates and mm’s that didn’t actually exist.

At the risk of pïssing off some esteemed members of CT, and from the sheer amount of butthurt I am seeing surrounding the man and his work, I'm getting the feeling that SOMEONE or multiple SOMEONE'S bought one of Carr's fantasy coin creations without fully informing themselves of the history and attributes of said creation.

If the esteemed member was deceived, it does not appear that the creator of the piece did the deceiving, and perhaps the purchaser was a bit too eager in the purchase. Blaming the creator of the piece is similar to blaming GM for the drunk who hit your car because he was driving a GM.

It is incumbent upon all of us to know what we are purchasing and not get too excited about discovering a potential "hitherto unknown rarity" without doing some "due diligence."

If any deceit was perpetrated, look to the secondary seller of said creation, not to the creator.

None of the most fervid anti-Carr posters have been deceived, as far as I know (and I've read some very long threads here on the topic). They're just concerned that someone might be. Kind of like I myself have never been poisoned or touched in a no-no spot by a Zincoln, but I'll still slam them at every opportunity.

Same mode and depth of thinking utilized by those opposed to our protected rights.

Demonize the object and the manufacturer, not the individual who uses the object, whatever it may be, to do harm . . . .

If he sells something that isn't real, but appears to be real, without informing the buyer in some way or other that it is not real, then he is defrauding the buyer.

    So. Is he?

It is real, sold as artwork, and disclosed as such.

That is plain to me, and I recently discovered who he it and what he does.

Not liking his work does not change that fact. Which of his creations did you inadvertently purchase?

Is he selling his overstrikes as, say Peace Dollars? Or is he selling them as overstrike fantasy peace dollars? I really don't know and this bit of info is relevant to the discusion. How he words it makes the difference between fraud and not fraud.

That is obvious, but shouldn't be a platform for denigrating his work and those who do appreciate it.

I don't like "Elvis on Velvet" but I don't denigrate the artist or little old lady that bought it.

Seems like trying to "overstamp" your views on others, much like the engraving artist . . . .

Reviews of the website clearly shows these are fantasy pieces, even the ANACS certification plainly states that.

How am I denegrating it? Except when I answered your question :)

How can selling a coin with a date/mm that doesn’t exist for that series “appear to be real?”

Furthermore, every single coin listed on his site carries the same disclaimer shown below.

“NOTE: Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
By purchasing one or more of these, the buyer agrees to provide full disclosure of their origin when reselling them. Failure to provide potential buyers with complete and accurate information when offering these could result in criminal and/or civil fraud charges. In other words, don't try to sell to unaware buyers as original coins of this type.

Do not attempt to use these as legal tender. This product is NOT endorsed or approved by the US Mint, US Treasury, or US Government.”

I think that qualifies as informing the buyer!

For your illumination. This comes with the piece.

By calling it a "counterfeit" which carries legal connotations and which it clearly is NOT.
