Went to the coin shop for the first time today, looked around, and spotted a pretty decent bargain (or so I think). Bought a display of 10 proof cents, years '56, '57, '58, '59, '60, '61, '62, '63, '64, and '73-S for $11.00!! They're BEAUTIFUL. I'd say the '63 is red. Some look orangish, some just pale gold. Pretty awesome!
I'll be sure to post pictures later, but let me know what you think--deal or no deal??;)

That's a really good deal, assuming there are none with copper spots/cleaning, etc.

Here are some pictures of the Proof cents! I guess once you've seen one, you've seen them all...but I'll put them all up just for the sake of putting them up :thumb:

HOWEVER: quick question about the 1957--does it look like he's smirking to you??? The more I look at the coin, the more I think that his mouth is incomplete. It doesn't go back far enough. Maybe I'm crazy. ok, maybe I'm a little more crazy than usual.

a couple more. you can see how red the '63 is with this reverse pic. the '73-S has really strong details compared to the rest of them...especially on the face and hair.

Thanks for looking, and seriously, take a look at that '57. It's freakin me out.

The pic of the 1957 does make it look strange. It looks like a really weak strike, but being a proof...I find that hard to believe.

I know, I don't understand it! There's hardly any detail in the hair, you really can't even see the beard, and everything else just looks...melted. I need a magnifying glass for Christmas lol.

Thanks! I think so too :smile

haha I know! One heck of a gift...in the form of underpriced merchandise :thumb: When I asked to look at them, the owner was like "oh man those are way too cheap. If you don't buy them, I'm upping the price as soon as you leave." Then I told him that three of the coins alone (the '56, '57, and '58) were listed as $13 together in the Red Book, and he was a little regretful of selling them to me after that :D
