Why...what rule has he broken? This "gentleman's agreement" concerning the DCarr thread is nothing more than that.

As a disinterested latecomer to this discussion and controversy, my opinion is that those most responsible for perpetuating this discourse are those who continue to argue and insist that D. Carr's artwork are "counterfeits", something the US Government doesn't even categorize them as.

He has already brought politics up in this very thread. Dan Carr's detractors are not only as he described, but rather, I'm sure, on both sides of the political spectrum. I am sure his supporters are the same.

I don't see a ton of political comments...perhaps some overtones but nothing that will get him banned. CU loves to ban people. This forum not so much.

Disagreeing with management gets you banned over there. I've said a lot of things directly to @GDJMSP that would have gotten me banned on CU if the staff here behaved the same way.

I'm really concerned that this thread hasn't been closed.

As a legalist, I believe that the subject objects, are similar to the objects believed produced on equipment designed for the production of U.S. coinage, with a previous design, with an engraved value, sold for profit by the striking agent, and additionally selected sales agents. A LEGAL DESCRIPTION IS BELIEVED TO BE A "MEDAL".

Does anyone remember posts concerning Alan Hager?
I mentally revisit his process, and am concerned about some believed tripe to be allowed stated/published.

If a legal process has evaluated these objects, I'd be concerned about some published statements I've seen here.

    I PERSONALLY LOVE THE OBJECTS!!

CT doesn't seem to care about slander as they tend to view themselves as a platform for others to express their self. I suppose any liability is assumed on the poster.

As an example, several years ago I got into a heated discussion with another prominent member here who considers himself a "coin dealer." It became known that he was cracking out problem slabbed coins, taking favorable photos of them and selling them as problem free. Several members, including myself pointed this out and we had proof. This member's response (at least to me) was to track down the Yelp page of my personal business (which is not coin related) and post a fraudulent bad review. He then PM'd me and bragged about it. Told me that I was hurting his business so he would do the same.

I complained to CT management...they didn't care. It wasn't their concern.

This individual still posts here regularly.

I kinda like that 42-D War Nickel, it has 3 different mint marks on it.

For me, the point of having my DC art medals certified is for protection. I like them in hard plastic not the original plastic flips. The flips can crack. The medals move around in the flip, etc. Don't really care about the grade. I'm pretty good at guessing the grade before I send them in.

This tells me all about you and your opinion. Thanks for posting and dragging down the thread.

Here is the thing. Dealers expect that 10% of a green monster box will be graded MS-70. It's probably a decent expectation since these rounds are usually graded with the naked eye. I graded 60 (mostly different) Daniel Carr art tokens and O/S replicas. 30% were MS-70's and I was using a 7X glass to find a reason to knock the piece out of "perfection." That's why my question. He must make his stuff very slowly and carefully. I suspect a lot of coins don't pass his inspection right off the press.

As for counterfeits, I come from the Attila the Hun School of Natural Selection. I cannot protect folks from ignorance or greed. They must learn for themselves. Many of Carr's coins look like normal silver issues - to someone who does not know what a Mercury dime looks like and that usually are not found in MS-70 condition.
In 1972, an attempt was made to protect these folks. All it did was ruin some beautiful replicas. We never stopped receiving coins stamped with "R's" or with "COPY" on their edge.

As far as I know, that is not part of the definition of counterfeit.

I been wracking my brain trying to remember where I saw an expose on Carr’s minting method. @Insider you are correct from what I recall. He is extremely meticulous, slow and methodical with his methods.... Since I first saw your post I have been trying to remember where I saw that piece. Sadly, it eludes me.

It's not. According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of counterfeit is: "to imitate or feign especially with intent to deceive." While an uneducated person may get fooled...it's not a counterfeit based on the accepted definition of the word without intent to deceive.

I secretly hope more Carr threads get posted. If Carr is your biggest concern in life you're doing exceptional.
