Forgive me, but it sort of looks like an old mug shot.

That's exactly what it is - Charles Ponzi (the man for whom the Ponzi Scheme is named).

Funny thing, the other night I was listening to the BBC world news and they were commenting on the Madoff debacle and comparing it to a Ponzi scheme but couldn't elaborate further on where the term "Ponzi" came from.

Madoff was running a Ponzi Scheme. That is where you pay dividends to early investors with money invested by new investors. The scheme has been around forever but Ponzi took it to new heights in 1920. Ever since then the scheme has had his name.

That would depend on whether or not Lane wanted the news out. Personally I think it's great. I'm glad to see slabs and their history getting some respect. And if his work surpasses mine (which is a decent possibility since he is more likely a better researcher and has more access to the proper people than I do.) I will still have made my mark as being the pioneer writer in the field.

I'm the owner and operator of coinauctionshelp.com and I don't mind a bit if my site is copied by anyone, as long as credit is given to my website. I worked hard to research and write all the pages, and my goal is to help ALL coin collectors, so I don't care how my information is used.

I just want our hobby to be as honest and safe as possible so we can enjoy coin collecting without malice from fraud and unscrupulous characters. Also, if anyone can suggest other grading companies for my website, I'm would love to have this information.

Don't worry you were given full credit.

    Doubledie,
I will take your post then as permission to use information from your site, properly creditied, in my book. I will try and get together a list of companies that I have which are not on your site.

Isaiah, how did you nominate your own thread? Didn't know you could do that.

Thank you DoubleDie for all your hard work putting the info together for everyone to read on your website. Your contribution to numismatics is invaluable.

And that feature has disappeared, probably because someone was abusing it.

You can still nominate posts...it just doesn't show up under our names anymore. That happened before when they first started the TOTW thing. For a couple days, all the stats were below our names then they disappeared. I think Peter is still ironing out the system.
