I found a Littleton ad selling walkers for $6.95, limit three, free shipping. since melt is over $10 these days, that seemed like a banging good deal. I even got a free wheatie the only times I ever get things from Littleton are these special offers at ridiculously low prices.
I hear so many bad things about this company, sounds like you got a great deal on these... any major negatives on dealing with them? Do they send you coins you don’t ask for, etc?
I have a soft spot in my heart for Littleton. They kept my coin fires burning when I was overseas in the Army......... Their catalog coins are overpriced. They often do loss-leader buying deals to get you on their “coins for approval” program. They hope you will keep those approval coins. That’s where they make their money back.
Out of curiosity i just went to their site for the first time. I collect Morgans, so that is where i went to see prices. To their credit, the site is easy to use, the grades of the coins are easy to select (although they dont go into specific MS grades and all seem raw), and pricing is clear. Money back guarantee and free shipping. Now the bad, the pricing is not just high its absurd. They are literally 2-3 times the pricing of apmex (which is medium to high retail as it is)on the coins i checked! Yikes! I'm all for people making money, but with those prices my assumption is they deal with a lot of people that don't know better, take advantage with mail order tactics, etc. I'm glad you find some deals though, and also that they kept you collecting while oversees! Maybe they do some other good things as well, but not fair pricing on morgans that's for sure.
I think Littleton's offer includes the acceptance of other coins on approval which have to be returned if you don't want them.
The thing about Littelton is this, once ya buy something from them, you're gonna be buried with ads in the mail and coins sent to you, without you asking for them, on approval. And then of course you either gotta buy them or go to the trouble of sending them back. And if memory serves, what Packrat said above is true.
I dunno if I'd call it "sneaky", they're pretty up-front about what they intend to do. They've found a niche based on human psychology -- at their prices, they can support their business on folks who don't get around to returning coins on time.
I did get sent a few other walkers for $12 each which I declined. they offered a feee return shipping label so I wasn’t out anything either
Littleton also advertises in the Parade magazine, the thin color insert in most Sunday newspapers - those offers are priced fairly, but any orders will trigger the coins on approval - a cheap way to add a few common silver coins to your stack, but don't fall for the approval coins (send them back)
"in addition to your special limited time offer, you'll also receive our fully illustrated catalog, plus other fascinating selections from our Free Examination Coins-On-Approval Service, from which you can purchase any or none of the coins- return balance in 15 days-with option to cancel at any time." And they will nail you with coins for approval, and hope you don't get them back to them within 15 days, and bang you with bill collectors when you shut down your credit card, yeah, no, good luck, I leaned my lesson may years ago with Columbia House and 12 CDs for a penny........ My opinion,, Cancel IMMEDIATELY and make sure you are cancelled. Guaranteed they have already shipped you stuff "for approval". And make sure they got them back, and don't have others "on their way". it's a nasty mess they are building if you don't stay on top of it. if you look at the better business bureau they look ok, but check Yelp and other real review sites. you'll see. They aren't doing anything technically wrong, it's just dirty and leaves people with a bad taste when they lose control of what's coming and what's being returned. And they only give you paid return shipping on the first items they send you. with your order.
I have "used" Littleton for years, buying their "deals" at ridiculously low prices and then cancelling their "coins on acceptance" at first mailing. It got me banned from their offers, but after a few months, they seem to have forgotten. They used to pay for return postage, which made it very easy to deal with them, but now you have to pay the return postage and insurance. And yes, their prices are over the top, but their loss leader offers can't be beat. Do I feel bad about taking advantage of their offers? Not in the least. They offered them to me, I didn't go looking to "rob" them.
Just got an offer from them for 1941-1945 Walkers for $49.95 with an album. Doesn't say anything about shipping though, but of course approvals. I wouldn't mind having a nice album hmmmm... https://www.littletoncoin.com/shop/...91704883&_bta_c=eszoxvxxu18jtom8dj73r6ddsqmae
